Pingu's Story

***SHE IS IN A FOSTER HOME SO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET HER

🐾 Meet Pingu (nicknamed Peggy Sue)🐾

(aka the little lady with the big comeback story 💕)

Pingu/Peggy Sue is a 24-pound mixed breed sweetheart, estimated to be around 4-5 years old, who came from a neglectful hoarding situation where she spent much of her life over-crated and repeatedly having puppies. Because of that past, Peggy Sue is still learning how to simply be a dog--and watching her discover the world is something special. 🌟🐶

She is timid, sensitive, and thrives on routine. Once she feels safe, her sweet personality starts to shine. She has recently begun playing with toys 🧸 and even played briefly with another dog for the first time. Every little milestone with her feels huge. 🎉

DOGS: She does well with other dogs of all sizes 🐕🐕‍🦺, though larger dogs can be intimidating at first.
KIDS: She may be fine with respectful older children, but because of her physical limitations, a home without young kids would be best.
CATS: Cats are unknown. 🐱❓Good news is she can't climb furniture or jump or run fast so chasing cats is probably not something she can do.

Pingu/Peggy Sue is house trained in the sense that she can hold it well and understands going outside in the morning or when you get home, but she is still learning how to ask to go out. She can be shy about pottying if someone is hovering, so she would do best with a fenced yard where she can go comfortably without leash pressure. 🌳🏡

She is still adjusting to leash walking and needs a patient adopter who understands nervous dogs. 🦮💛

She prefers to eat alone, at night, in peace and quiet. 🌙🍽️ She currently won't eat treats or meals in front of people or other dogs, so she'll need a family willing to let her eat on her own terms.

Pingu/Peggy Sue also has some lifelong orthopedic challenges caused by old untreated injuries. Her pelvis was broken and healed improperly from lack of vet care, and prolonged crating affected her rear legs. She gets around well, can manage a few steps, enjoys moving about, and may improve further with exercise and physical therapy--but she must stay lean for her health. 💪🐾

Pingu/Peggy Sue also has Demodex, which is a non-contagious mange that is just part of her life. As long as she is kept on an oral flea & tick medication all year long she will not likely have any flare ups.

She should never be crated again. 🚫📦

She rides wonderfully in the car 🚗, is quiet overall, and is content relaxing in her own room while you're away.

Pingu/Peggy Sue needs a compassionate, patient home that will meet her where she is and celebrate every bit of progress.
She may have some challenges but she's got a wonderful loving personality full of hope, courage, and desire to be a regular dog, for the right person, she will be the most rewarding dog. ❤️🐾

Adoption fee is $250.

She is in a foster home so reach out to schedule a meeting with her. She will be spayed on Friday April 24, she is negative for hearworm, Lyme, vaccinated, flea & tick treated, and microchipped. We're open Monday through Friday 12-5 pm and Saturday 11-3 pm. We're located at 9331 State Route 124 Hillsboro, OH. Our adoption is open and easy, please come to the shelter to meet the animals in person to adopt.
