Pierce's Story

Meet Pierce — the dog you don't forget.
Pierce is a handsome 2-year-old (May 2024), 40-pound Dachshund/Lab/Golden mix with the most incredible piercing golden eyes. His eyes are actually how he got his name, inspired by James Bond 007, Pierce Brosnan. Those eyes match his personality, too—Pierce has a protective side and can give you quite the serious stare. But if you stare back, he'll respect you!
Behind that serious look is a total goofball with a huge heart. Pierce is playful, affectionate, curious, and loves being around his people. He enjoys playing with other dogs, catch, tug-of-war, and his chew toys. He loves the water, beach days, nature walks, getting his zoomies out, and following every interesting scent along the way. A fenced yard would be a dream for him!
Once the zoomies are over, Pierce is perfectly happy stretching out on the couch or bed for pets and belly rubs. He is very much a companion dog and loves following his person from room to room simply because he wants to be near them. He would be especially happy with someone who is home often and wants a loyal best friend by their side. And if you've ever woken up next to Pierce, you know those beautiful golden eyes make him one of the best dogs to wake up to—always ready for cuddles and kisses.
Pierce is house-trained and crate-trained, knows basic commands, and is generally an easygoing boy. He is good with children and most people and does well with other animals of all sizes. He enjoys the company of other dogs and has done well around other animals while staying with sitters. He's generally quiet and hardly ever barks, although he makes some funny little noises when he needs something, is curious, or gets startled.
On walks, Pierce may suddenly freeze when he hears something because he wants to know exactly what—or who—it is. And if it's another dog, his first thought is usually, “Is that my friend? Can I play?!” He is not aggressive, but he can react when startled or unsure. He would therefore do best with someone patient who understands dogs and will give him a moment to assess new situations rather than rushing him.
Pierce has lived in both an apartment and a house, but he is noticeably more comfortable and relaxed in a house environment, particularly when he has space to move around and a yard to enjoy. He would thrive in a home with a fenced yard and a family who enjoys both adventure and quiet time. He’s good with sticking to a routine and adapts well. He'd love someone who will take him on walks, explore nature with him, let him enjoy his zoomies, and then come home and share the couch. He loves relaxing on the bed and waking up to cuddles.
Pierce is neutered, up to date on his vaccines and veterinary care, has no current medical issues, and is generally easy with food. He has been deeply loved and cared for since March 2025. He has made quite an impression on the people who have cared for him. His sitters welcome him back for repeat stays, and he has consistently been comfortable around other animals.
For the past year, I have been facing the incredibly difficult decision to begin the process of finding Pierce a new home. I have spent the past year doing everything possible to make things work, but because of medical and financial circumstances beyond my control, I have reached a point where I can no longer give Pierce everything I believe he deserves.
This is not because Pierce has done anything wrong. This is not a behavioral issue in the slightest. He is not unwanted, and he is not being given up because he is difficult. He is deeply loved.
Sometimes loving a dog means being honest about what is best for him, even when that decision is heartbreaking. I have reached that point with Pierce, and my greatest hope is that this next chapter gives him the time, space, companionship, and stability he deserves.
Pierce wants to be loved, and he has so much love to give in return. His ideal family will see past the beautiful face and golden eyes and fall in love with the goofy, loyal, playful companion underneath. He deserves a home where he can be part of the family, have room to run, someone to follow around, a couch to claim, and people who will love him for the rest of his life.
Pierce isn't looking for just any home. He's looking for his people.
If you think you may be the right foster or forever family for Pierce, please reach out. And if you can't take him yourself, sharing his story may help us find the person who is meant to love this very special handsome boy.

2 years old • 40 lbs • Dachshund/Lab/Golden mix • Neutered • House-trained • Crate-trained • Good with kids • Good with dogs • Good with animals of all sizes • Basic commands • No current medical issues • Quiet • Active/playful • Loves cuddles.
