Meet Petunia

Meet Petunia, or Tootie or Toot Toots as her foster parents call her! Petunia was surrendered to CMACC with a giant mammary mass and two rotting teeth. It was later discovered through X-rays that she has had 3 previously broken ribs and two herniated discs in her back. She weighs just under 5 lbs. She is THE SWEETEST girl and is incredibly quiet. Her favorite things are eating and sleeping. She’s not a very affectionate or snuggly girl, she prefers to be an independent woman, but will happily rest in the same room as you. Petunia does fine with other dogs, but due to her tiny size and fragility she would need to be in a home with small and incredibly mellow dogs. She doesn’t walk very well and can easily be knocked over if a dog is too rough, even if it’s just them playing. She would also do best in a home with older children, no younger than 10. She had her mammary masses removed last month and it was discovered her big one was a stage 1 carcinoma. This is the slowest spreading and least likely to metastasize. Her adopter can opt to do X-rays in 6 months to guarantee it hasn’t spread, but the vet said that’s not an absolute necessity. Her two rotting teeth were removed and she has no teeth left. She does have a pretty big oral fistula that you can see her sinus cavity through that has been bothering her recently. Her adopter may need to have this surgically repaired, but our current focus and plan is to keep her comfortable. Petunia’s age is estimated to be between 12-14 years old. She isn’t potty trained at all, and won’t ever be. So her adopter will need to understand and be patient with this. Most of the time she will go when we put her outside, but sometimes she will come inside and go on the carpet. She’s incredibly food motivated and runs behind you chasing you when you have her food bowl ready. She can eat dry kibble and is currently eating dry kibble with some doggy broth poured over it. We also think she is deaf, as she doesn’t ever respond to any sound and does spook easily if woken up abruptly. She will happily go places with you and ride around in her stroller or in a doggy pouch.

An adoption fee of $250 includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, flea and heartworm preventatives if appropriate, and all necessary medical costs while in our care.
