Petey's Story

Meet Petey: The World's Cutest Little Snowball (Featuring One Permanently Adorable Tongue)

Some dogs spend their golden years slowing down.

Petey spent his getting a glow up.

When this tiny 10 pound gentleman arrived at an Illinois humane society, he was severely matted, neglected, and in desperate need of someone to care. Thankfully, those days are firmly in his rearview mirror. Today, Petey is discovering that life is actually supposed to be soft beds, kind hands, sunny grass, and people who think he's absolutely perfect.

(Which, for the record... he is.)

The first thing you'll notice is his face. More specifically, his tiny little pink tongue that peeks out almost all the time. It's the kind of face that makes you involuntarily say, "OH MY GOSH, LOOK AT HIM!" every single time he walks into the room. (Partially because all his teeth were a rotted mess and had to be removed, but his mouth is feeling MUCH better, thankyouverymuch)

His second best feature? His heart.

Petey simply loves people.

He isn't looking for adventure. He isn't training for a marathon. He has no interest in hiking mountains or learning complicated tricks.

His dream day looks something like this:

Follow his favorite human from room to room.
Climb into a warm lap.
Receive gentle pets.
Take a nap.
Wander outside to roll around in the grass.
Listen to the birds sing.
Repeat as needed.

He's basically a tiny retired gentleman who has finally figured out the secret to happiness.

Petey gets along wonderfully with the small dogs and cats in his foster home and would fit beautifully into a calm household. Because his hearing and vision aren't what they used to be, he appreciates when people let him know they're nearby before reaching for him. A cheerful "Hi, Petey!" is all it takes to keep from startling this sweet little soul.

He is housebroken, doesn't need a crate, rarely barks, and has impeccable houseguest manners. When he's sleepy, he simply wanders over to his soft bed and curls up for a nap like the polite little gentleman he is.

Petey does have chronic dry eye that requires eye drops and ointment a few times a day (about $75/month), and he has a dental procedure already scheduled (cost covered by ADL). Beyond that, he's mostly interested in collecting belly rubs and being adored, which is a full time job in itself.

If you've been searching for a dog who still believes every person might become his new best friend...

If your idea of excitement is sharing quiet mornings, peaceful evenings, and plenty of couch time...

If you've always wanted a tiny white snowball with the cutest permanent tongue blep you've ever seen...

Petey has been waiting his whole life to meet you.

Petey's Perfect Home

Calm, loving family
Happy with friendly dogs or as your little shadow
Cat friendly
Best with older, respectful children due to his limited hearing and vision
Professional lap warmer
Expert in unconditional love

His past may have been neglected. His future deserves nothing less than completely cherished.

Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.

Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog.
