O'Henry's Story

**O’Henry: It’s Finally His Turn to Be Loved**

O’Henry has every reason not to trust people — and somehow, he still does.

This incredibly sweet young boy, estimated to be around 2 years old, endured a terrible start in life in San Miguel de Allende. He had been kept tied with wire around his neck, and by the time someone intervened, the wire had cut so deeply that the wound exposed the muscle beneath it.

Thankfully, one of our volunteers persuaded his owner to release him, and a veterinarian came every day for several days to care for his neck and help him heal.

For a time, O’Henry lived on the streets near our rescue area, where he quickly became a favorite of everyone who knew him. He was given food, affection, and plenty of love, and through it all his extraordinary sweetness became impossible to miss.

O’Henry is the kind of dog who makes you wonder how someone so mistreated could remain so gentle.

He is extremely friendly, affectionate, people-oriented, and soft-natured. He loves attention and human companionship and seems happiest simply being near people who are kind to him. There is nothing hard or guarded about him. He is warm, trusting, and easy to love.

Other dogs on the street would sometimes pick on him, and O’Henry simply isn’t a fighter. His response to the world is gentleness, not aggression.

For the right person or family, O’Henry has all the makings of a wonderful companion: loving, loyal, affectionate, and genuinely happy to receive the care and attention he has gone without for so long. He is the kind of dog who could become deeply devoted to the person who finally gives him a safe place to belong.

O’Henry is now safe in foster care in San Miguel de Allende, but foster care is only the next chapter.

What he really needs is his person.

He has survived neglect, healed from a terrible injury, and somehow kept his soft heart intact.

Now it’s finally his turn to be loved — for good.
