I just know that somewhere along the way, I learned to be afraid. Loud noises, new places, strangers... they can make the world feel very big for a little dog like me.<br/><br/>So when I meet someone new, I don't run into their arms.<br/><br/>I might watch from a distance.<br/><br/>I might quietly hide behind another dog.<br/><br/>I might need a little time.<br/><br/>Please don't take it personally.<br/><br/>I'm not saying "no."<br/><br/>I'm just asking, "Can you be patient with me?"<br/><br/>Because if you can...<br/><br/>If you let me figure things out at my own pace...<br/><br/>You'll discover that underneath all that worry is the sweetest little love bug you've ever met.<br/><br/>Once I know you're safe, I won't want to leave your side.<br/><br/>I'll follow you from room to room.<br/><br/>I'll curl up beside you while you read or watch TV.<br/><br/>I'll lean against you for comfort and quietly ask for belly rubs.<br/><br/>I don't need to be the center of attention.<br/><br/>I just want to be close to the people I love.<br/><br/>And I really, really love other dogs.<br/><br/>Honestly, they've helped teach me that the world isn't so scary after all.<br/><br/>Big dogs, little dogsI don't care. I just want a friend to run with, wrestle with, and show me that everything is okay. Watching a confident dog enjoy life helps me be brave too.<br/><br/>That's why I dream about a forever home with a friendly canine brother or sister waiting for me.<br/><br/>Someone to show me where the toy basket is.<br/><br/>Someone to run around the backyard with.<br/><br/>Someone to remind me that I'm safe.<br/><br/>People often look at me and notice that I only have three legs.<br/><br/>But I don't think about it much.<br/><br/>I can still run.<br/><br/>I can still play.<br/><br/>I can still go for walks and explore the outdoors.<br/><br/>I love car rides because they usually mean an adventure is waiting for me.<br/><br/>And if you happen to bring treats or toys along... well, you've already won a big piece of my heart.<br/><br/>I've been waiting for my forever family for over a year now. .<br/><br/>That's a long time to wonder if you're ever going to belong somewhere.<br/><br/>A long time to watch other dogs find homes while you keep hoping your turn will come.<br/><br/>But I haven't given up.<br/><br/>I still believe there's someone out there who understands that some of the very best things in life take a little time.<br/><br/>Someone who won't mind that I need a gentle introduction.<br/><br/>Someone who knows that trust isn't something you demandit's something you earn.<br/><br/>And when you earn mine, I promise I'll give you something very special in return.<br/><br/>My whole heart.<br/><br/>Maybe I only have three legs...<br/><br/>But I have enough love for a lifetime.<br/><br/>And I've been saving it for the family who's willing to wait for me.<br/><br/>Love,<br/><br/>**Hopper **<br/><br/>*"The dogs who take the longest to trust are often the ones who have the most love to give.
