Someone thought giving him a dog might lift his spirits — that dog was me. I tried so hard to be his light, wagging my tail, offering kisses, waiting for his smile. But sometimes, even love can’t fix what’s broken inside a person’s heart. Eventually, he couldn’t care for me anymore.<br/><br/>I was placed in a boarding facility, and then later went to a foster home in Vancouver, BC but that’s where my heart broke for real. I was locked away in a dark basement, alone most of the time, with almost no light and no one to talk to. I cried quietly for someone to hear me — to know that I was still here, still trying to be good, still hoping for love.<br/><br/>And one day a local rescuer heard me.<br/>They came and took me out of that place. I’ll never forget the first time I saw sunlight again — how it warmed my face, how I blinked against it because it had been so long. I wagged my tail so hard it hurt, because I knew my life was about to change.<br/><br/>I promise I’ll be the best boy for you. I’m great with other dogs, and my rescuer says I’m good with kids too — though maybe bigger kids would be best, because when I get excited, my wagging tail might knock the little ones over. I haven’t met cats yet, but I’m a gentle soul, so maybe we’d be fine together.<br/><br/>I love adventures — walks, exploring, sniffing new scents — but I also love curling up beside you after, resting my head on your lap and feeling your heartbeat. I’ve been through enough loneliness for one lifetime.<br/><br/>I’m a good boy who’s still learning. I do get curious and might counter surf or be a little mouthy sometimes, but I just want to be part of everything you do.
