Monica's Story

Meet Monica 🐾

Monica is about 5–6 years old, and while her story is not an easy one, we are hopeful her future can be.

She came to us from a truly horrific hoarding situation, where life was anything but kind. Monica did not get the chance to simply be a dog. Instead, she spent her days confined and surviving, without the comfort, stability, and love every dog deserves. Now, she is slowly learning what freedom, space, and safety can feel like.

Because of her past, Monica will need a very special adopter. She needs patience, time, and someone willing to let her move at her own pace. She is still learning to trust, still learning that the world can be gentle, and still learning what it means to be loved. She is not the kind of dog who will settle in overnight, but for the right person, helping Monica heal will be a deeply meaningful journey.

Monica is also a flight risk, so a secure fence is absolutely required for her safety. Due to her history, she will likely do best as the only dog in the home, where she can continue to decompress and build confidence without added pressure.

She is also heartworm positive, but we will cover all heartworm treatment expenses.

Monica may need more patience than most, but she is worthy of that patience. She deserves a home that will give her the time, grace, and understanding she has always needed. Somewhere out there is a person who will see beyond her fear, recognize her heart, and give her the second chance she has always deserved.

If you have a calm home, a secure yard, and a heart for the dogs who need a little extra, Monica may be the one who needs you most.

All of our dogs come fully vetted and ready for their next chapter! Second Chance Dog Rescue Mansfield (SCDR)'s Adoption Policy
Potential adopters first complete our Interest-in-Adopting form. If the form is approved, the potential adopters are contacted for a meet and greet. (If the potential adopters have other dogs, the meet and greet will also be done with their current dogs.) If the meet and greet goes well, a home check is scheduled. Once the home is approved, the dog is allowed to go home. At the time of drop off, a final contract of adoption is signed. Adoption resources, new pup resources, and guidelines are given to the adopters to help them transition with their new rescue pup.
