Missy's Story

Missy is a sweet bulldog girl who is getting a second chance at life. She was just days away from her expiration date at the San Bernardino shelter when Love's Legacy Rescue stepped in to save her. Now she is safe, spayed, and slowly learning what it means to be loved.

Missy came to us with cherry eyes in both eyes, and our vet has worked hard to repair them. One may need another try, but we will keep doing whatever it takes to make her comfortable. After her surgery and recovery, she has only been in our home for a few nights, but she is already showing us who she really is underneath all that survival instinct.

When Missy first arrived, she was understandably in fight or flight mode. We can only imagine what her life looked like before, likely years of fending for herself with no one to count on. But every day is a little better than the last. She is putting on weight, settling in, and starting to trust that food will keep showing up and hands will not hurt her. Today was a good day. She is finally eating well, relaxing more, and letting her personality peek through.

She has the most charming underbite, and her tongue loves to hang out about a half inch past her lips, which we think is absolutely adorable. Because of her bite, she licks her food rather than scooping it, so meals take her a little longer and tend to be a little messier. She does not seem to have had much guidance in her life, so we are patiently teaching her the basics of being a beloved family dog and figuring out all her little quirks along the way.

Missy is looking for a patient, gentle family who understands that healing takes time. She is not a project. She is a soul who has been waiting her whole life for someone to choose her. If you have a calm home and an open heart, Missy might just be your girl.
