MEET BELLE! LOCATED IN ELLICOTT CITY, MARYLAND
TYPE: F1 Labradoodle

Meet Belle! She is an absolutely adorable, first generation Labradoodle puppy who through no fault of her own, ended up being surrendered to DRC. Belle is black, is a medium-sized Doodle (currently 30 lbs) and will be no bigger than 40 lbs as an adult. She has a beautiful soft, mixed wire/fleece, light-shedding coat that will require grooming. At the moment, Belle is still going through a coat change as she transitions to adulthood. We do feel she will ultimately end up with a light-shed coat.

As her name suggests, Belle is quite the beauty! Her eyes say it all! Her wonderful foster Mom tells us "She's not only incredibly gorgeous, you can see her soul & her intelligence in those deep, expressive eyes. I keep expecting her to bust out in full sentences with the way she vocalizes, She is really pretty amazing for such a young puppy!"

Belle was surrendered because of issues with the young children in her original home. Because they were young, dog-inexperienced, and handled her inappropriately, (in spite of their Mom's best efforts), they made Belle feel uncomfortable and insecure. Consequently, poor Belle felt she had to take matters into her own hands (paws) & allegedly started resource guarding various objects in the house. Being a very smart and vocal puppy, she also took to growling at them whenever she felt threatened in any way. So Belle became habituated to exhibiting certain behavior in her original home that required an immediate change in environment & total reset.

Belle's Foster Mom Reports:

"Belle is really a wonderful girl. She's a total snuggle bug and LOVES to have her belly rubbed! She is incredibly smart, is surprisingly submissive in spite of her occasional stubbornness, she loves to please & just really wants to be loved. She responds beautifully to positive reinforcement & praise. She does NOT do well with harsh correction, harsh words or yelling of any kind, I've discovered that her growls are her way of talking and are for the most part, just her way of expressing herself. I think many of her vocalizations were misinterpreted by her former owner and the kids and their harsh responses drove her to a compulsion to resource guard. We have worked on this for several weeks now and now that she completely trusts me and understands that she doesn't need to protect anything, she willingly drops anything she happens to have in her mouth if I ask her to. In some instances I have to trade her for a cookie. Thankfully, she is food motivated and loves to please her person. She will need a very dog-savvy person & home.

Belle loves everyone. She is a very social puppy. & gets along exceptionally well with other dogs. She has played with numerous neighborhood dogs of various ages and sizes male & female. She loves to play ball, loves our walks and she rides beautifully in the car. She is crate trained, but doesn't need to be crated (she's completely house-trained) & I've left her alone in the house loose for hours with no consequence. She just curls up on my bed while I'm gone and doesn't budge. She can be a bit of a lump. Belle is still a puppy with plenty of puppy energy, so she will need a calm, yet active, puppy/ Doodle-savvy person or family who understand how to address resource guarding should Belle revert to old behavior & be willing to continue on with her training.

Again, she is still a puppy, and is still highly trainable. She just needs the RIGHT patient, dog-savvy person/family willing to put the time into her. She will also need to be allowed on furniture and LOVES to sleep on the bed with her person or peeps. We are going to be very picky when choosing Belle's furever home and family."

Belle will need a patient, loving, puppy/dog/Doodle-savvy, ADULT ONLY home with a large yard surrounded by a physical fence where she is allowed on furniture. Her foster mom says Belle is fine as an only dog provided someone is around for at least part of the day. She would also do well with a well-mannered brother or sister for companionship.

Belle is spayed, UTD on all vaccines & preventatives & will be a wonderful addition to the right home, person or family!

DRC Adoption donations typically range from: $300 - $650 and vary according to the age, health, temperament and location of each dog. Every doodle is an individual and every doodle has his/her own specific needs and requirements. Adopters are selected based on compatibility, NOT on a "first come, first serve basis. At no time does DRC ever put the desires of applicants before or above the needs and requirements of rescue doodles in our program.
