Meet Max

Max is an approximately 12 month old mixed breed boy who came to the shelter as a stray on a very cold day. This little guy was basically on death's door when he arrived in our care and probably would not have survived much longer outside. Poor Max was emaciated and all skin and bones. He was lethargic and his will to live was pretty low. He even needed a blood transfusion from another dog just to hold on for a bit! We moved this little lab/beagle mix into a foster home to help him recover from his ordeal and where he could be nursed back to health. Max has been with his foster mom for a little over a month and is now ready to find a family of his own. He lives with other cats and dogs, and does great with all of the above. However, he does not do well with birds or other small pets . He is crate trained and about 95% housebroken. His foster mom reports that he is a very sweet and playful pup who has found his zest for life again. While Max does love small children, we are going to say he is best in an experienced home without children because he is still learning that food is plentiful and always available, and will guard his food. His foster mom has been feeding him by hand, but it will take some time and trust to truly conquer this issue. We know Max has a bright future ahead with a lucky family.
