Luka had an owner that was not caring for him properly so she gave him to a friend. But the friend ended up being allergic to him. The friend wanted to make sure Luka found a great home because he is a great pup. So Luka is now a Waverly Pet Rescue dog. He is now up to date on shots, dewormed, treated with Frontlline, tested heartworm negative, started on heartguard and neutered.

Luka is about 9-months old as of May 2021. Luka is currently 55lbs but extremely skinny, and will likely grow to 80-100lbs. Initially, Luka was very shy and timid.. especially with men, but after a week in a foster home with other dogs and cats, he is opening up quite a bit. He is very friendly, easy going, quick to learn. He is great with other dogs and good with cats who normally live with dogs. (Bringing Luka into a home with cats, but no dogs might be tougher, as Luka has lots of playful energy ). Luka is also great with kids.. due to his size, you'd want to take your time with babies or young kids.. but 7+ would be fine.
He is learning to play with toys.. loves to play tug, and wrestle. He plays well with other dogs and sharing toys. His foster home has a 5' chain link fence and shows no signs of wanting to climb/jump the fence. He has a big underbite so he is so adorable when he is showing his teeth. Luka is not mean or aggressive at all. Such a sweet boy. We will post more updates on his progress as time goes on.

To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
