Lucy Chihuahua & Rat Terrier Mix Newell, IA

This is Lucy, a eight year old feisty chihuahua/terrier. She would likely do fine in a family with older children, but she probably wouldn't want to be around little kids. She is a chi, and we all know what their personalities can be at times! She is VERY active, loves her toys, and is quite obsessed once she starts playing/tearing them apart!. She loves squeaky toys-well, she loves to tear them apart and get the squeakers out, and the more fluff she can remove, the better!

She would probably do best being an only dog rather than having to share the attention. She has shown some jealousy towards some dogs, but with others she gets along with just fine. She initially tends to be snippy (ok, downright snarky sometimes...until she loves you) with people she doesn't know, but once you have her trust and love, she will be devoted 100%. She's a work in progress, and she's making strides! She has been around the office cat at the vet's office and she just ignores it-so hopefully that means she would do fine in a home with a cat!

For some reason, she tends to not trust men at first-it will take a little patience with her to give her a chance to adapt in a new home and family. As far as pottying, she is used to using a doggie door, but in her previous home, they just took her out regularly and she did quite well. She always goes outside at TLC, so she'd probably do just fine once she settles in with a furever family.

Lucy would love a secure fenced area to run and play, as she's high energy. Tug of war with a toy is her favorite! She loves to go for walks too! If you think perhaps she might be a fit for you, please contact TLC and we'll email you our questionnaire!
