Louie's Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Louie. This gorgeous miniature Australian Shepherd came to us as an owner surrender. A change in lifestyle had them living in an apartment with not a lot of room for a young, energetic dog to run and well... be an Aussie! He is beautiful, and even has a long fluffy tail.

Louie is about 16 months old and 33#. His foster is an Aussie person - owning and fostering the breed. She says Louie needs some manners. It seems he got a lot of freedom and little guidance. Although he's crate trained and housebroken, leash walking is about playing tug with the leash. He took a minute to figure out how to play with the fosters dog, but given a moment, it was Play Run Play Run. He's very sweet and like the breed - super smart.

We just got him into a foster home and will update his profile as we learn more about him. We think a home prepared to provide both physical and mental stimulation is a MUST! The only area that will need watching, and we are working on it, Louie seems to be reactive over food dishes. Not toys or treats, but a dish. It can even be empty. So we will find out more info about this issue.

His adopter may need to be prepared to include grooming in their budget.
This dog is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated.

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $475. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your dog.
