LOIS*'s Story

Meet Lois, the staffie mix puppy! Lois came to the Shelter as an underage puppy with her mom Linda (who is also up for adoption) as well as her five littermates after their previous guardian was unable to continue caring for them. Lois has been growing up for the past few weeks in a foster. Her foster reports that she is the bravest girl ever. She is often the leader of the band – confident and sassy. She can be mouthy during play (typical for puppies her age). After she gets her yayas out, she loves to cuddle. Adopters for this puppy should be mindful that her mother is around 50lb. We aren’t exactly sure who dad is but some of the littermates are a bit wire haired so may be some sort of terrier mix? Lois will need an adopter that can commit to all things puppy – potty training, age appropriate socialization, and life skills & manners. If you’re interested, come down to the Shelter to talk with Client Services staff members about the next steps. Lois is available for preadoption - come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
