Meet Lexi

Meet Lexi! DOB 09/21/2018
Lexi is a 3yr Shepherd mix who had an adoring and devoted family and was living a wonderful life, until circumstances suddenly changed in their lives and they knew that she deserved a forever family who could give her more time.

She is the sweetest girl, very well behaved, gets along well with other dogs, and wins hearts wherever she goes with her beauty both inside and out.
Lexi has a unique smile which she shows often when she is happy/playing (see photo with her foster sister).

She is great with people, though a bit shy at first and can be overwhelmed by large crowds of visitors or people who approach her too quickly, she warms up once she is allowed to get to know you on her own terms.

Lexi is far more shy with men, and would prefer a female primary caregiver in her new home. She is friendly with men once she feels safe with them, but is making it very clear during her time with us that she feels safest and most bonded to female caregivers.

She would prefer a quieter home , though adapts well to calm visitors within a short time.
She is not happy being left alone for long periods of time and would prefer a home where someone is around often, perhaps someone who works from home or with a female adult who is home more often.

She is fine with respectful, dog savvy older children.

Lexi gets along great with all dogs so far and is living in her foster home with a very high energy 1yr pup. She is doing fabulously but would prefer a dog with less constant energy ? as she is not a high energy dog herself. She does love to play but can be a bit rough, so a younger medium to large breed dog who is up for this would be ideal.
Lexi's ideal new family would have another canine companion for her to help her confidence and for companionship while her family is not home.

Foster notes:
Very obedient. I get near perfect recall across the house when Akali is playing with her. Crate training is going well (because she's massively food motivated) but she does exhibit some separation anxiety and would prefer a home where someone is not away for long periods of time.
Working on crate training, she will bark and whine, not used to a crate but is not destructive so may be fine left uncrated in a dog proofed home and we suspect she would be happier without requiring a crate. She loves to sleep with us and settles well, often moving down onto her dog bed when she becomes too warm.

Overall very well behaved. No bathroom accidents, no destruction at all, very limited counter surfing, doesn't jump up on people, etc.

Food motivated which is helping with her ongoing training, and travels calmly in a vehicle with a seat belt.

Lexi requires a home without cats or small animals as we have no idea how she would do with them and this poor girl has already had one major change in her life, so we are seeking her ideal forever family where she will be set up for success and live for many years happily.

Lexi is currently on Sashas Blend joint supplement which she will need to stay on. Her previous vet and our own have thoroughly examined her with no concerns whatsoever found, but she does occasionally favor her rear leg if she over does play etc, and with her breed genetics, she will need to have ongoing joint support to set her up for a comfortable long life.

She is now fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, bloodwork excellent with no concerns whatsoever and negative fecal. She has been on flea/tick/heartworm preventative and tested heartworm negative.

Only applicants who meet each dog's criteria for their ideal forever home will be contacted. You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered.

Notes:
* Older, respectful, dog savvy children welcome
* We do not adopt to homes using invisible fencing
* Female as primary caregiver, home often
*Ideally a canine companion of similar friendly playful temperament
*Must be located within Ontario Canada
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
*Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's permission

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require two in person meetings in St Jacobs ON
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs if you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs.

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application

Lexi's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $550. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, dentals if required, deworming if needed, Heartworm and Tick disease testing, bloodwork, Advantage prevention, and all medical treatments and surgeries required during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled, on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites.
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.
Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
