Kirby's Story
Kirby’s backstory:

Kirby arrived at an animal control facility, completely covered in dirt and mats with bulging and severely painful eyes due to untreated glaucoma. When we saw him, we knew we had to pull him to safety or else he would be euthanized. His treatment became an emergency, and several rescue transport volunteers made a relay across several states to get him to our emergency veterinarian.

Kirby had to have both eyes removed due to the severe neglect during the first years of his life. Kirby also had a complete dental, neuter, and is now up-to-date on his essential vaccinations. His bloodwork is good. He's ready to go!

Breed and Hair Notes:
Kirby has hair that grows and not fur. He is a stunning blend of Shih Tzu and perhaps Lhasa Apso.

PLEASE NOTE: His hair will grow indefinitely, and he will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.

Get to Know Kirby:
Kirby is approximately 7 years old, though this only an estimate.

Kirby enjoys relaxing in comfortable dog beds throughout his foster family's home. When he wakes up, he seeks out attention. He loves to be cuddled, something that is a joy for everyone to see, given his past and all he's endured.

Kirby is content on his own for his naps throughout the day. He lives peacefully with other dogs and cats, though he prefers gentler and quieter ones. He has met puppies, and he is leery of their high energy.

He wants to be part of things, and he will follow with sound and smell to stay connected. He is impressive and amazing. He does not feel sorry for himself, and we should not feel sorry for him either! We celebrate that he is alive and well in this second chance he's been given!

Ideal Home:

Kirby is quite laidback and takes his lack of sight in stride. At the same time, he needs extra attention due to it. Things must stay in place in the home so he can maneuver safely through it. A quiet and calm home is ideal, not one that has a lot of people coming and going in it. He should also be in a home without young children who do not understand boundaries. Older children who respect boundaries would be loved by dear Kirby.

Kirby will flourish in a home where he can hang out with his people during the day and sleep near or with them at night.

Kirby is extra special, and we are honoured to give him this second chance at a wonderful life! Can you see hugging this dear boy for the rest of his life? Then we want to hear from you!
