Meet Kari
This gorgeous girl is Kari! She’s a 5 year old German Shepherd mix rescued from a shelter in West Virginia. She weighs 80 pounds and could put on a little weight. Kari lived most of her life outside but is learning quickly how nice the indoors are!
She goes in her crate just fine and hasn’t had any accidents in the house! She’s a little territorial over her food so she will need to be fed separately and has no problem doing so in her crate!
She gets along great with her foster's male dog and is warming up to the female, however she is not a fan of her senior dog for some reason.
This poor sweetie came in with Lyme disease and Ehrlichia, but that hasn’t affected her happy personality one bit! Lyme is a tick borne disease that is not contagious to other dogs or humans but will remain in her system, throughout her life. Ehrlichia is also a tick borne but treated and cured with antibiotics.
Kari may have an occasional flare-up which would be indicated by joint pain/inflammation, limping, lethargy and possible loss of appetite. Typically a dose of antibiotics is enough to make the disease go dormant again. To help control the Lyme, Kari will need a yearly Lyme vaccine. Should she have multiple flare ups in a short amount of time, her kidneys could be affected. Lyme has become more prevalent in the southern states, and many dogs with this disease have lived long happy lives!
If you would like to meet Kari, please go to our website at www.rescueahart.org and fill out an online adoption application.
All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks! www.rescueAhart.org
