Meet Jude

DOB April 8/22, Jude is a very sweet Mini Poodle/Labrador Retriever mix who joined our rescue through no fault of her own.

Jude's spay surgery is pending due to her young age, and her contract will require her new family to return her to our vet located in Arthur ON, at our expense, for her surgery.

Her contract also requires registration with an approved trainer to set her and her new family up for success.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE PROFILE BEFORE APPLYING
Notes from Jude's foster mom

Jude is a true delight! She's a perfect mix of sass and snuggly. Playful and perky but still has the ability tojust chill.
She is so spunky, loving, cheeky, lively and just has this playfulness about her! Within minutes of first entering my home, she perched right on top of my son's lap, and then worked her way up to nuzzle into his neck and fell asleep.

She LOVES to sleep on my pillow and even though she moves down to tuck in behind my back or by my belly, she has to start on my pillow, sniffs and kisses me goodnight first. She loves to play with other dogs (of all sizes and breeds) and isn't shy to use her voice to tell you that she needs to go out or that there is something she wants you to check out with her.

Jude wasn't a huge fan of car rides but now will happily jump into the car (wheel well of the back seat and then up onto the seat) and wait to be buckled in! Her confidence on walks has also grown exponentially and will continue to do so if allowed to go on "sniffy walks" and if she continues to have choices.

Jude would thrive in a home with another dog (or two) to play with. Whilst she can play on her own, she loves to chase, tumble and chew on ears and tails of other dogs (in play, not to hurt!!!).

She's pretty spunky so she can be too much for shy dogs or younger/smaller timid dogs but she listens really well to the other dog when they ask her to "please give me some space". She'll happily trot off to find something else to do or someone else to play with.

She also would do better in a home with a fenced backyard because she does LOVES to run around in the yard. Because of her age, someone that is home to let her toilet outside, keep her mentally stimulated outside of nap times, and someone who is willing to continue to teach her about the world we live in will definitely be where she will thrive.

Jude really does love to play. We've worked really hard at creating predictable patterns of precedent with her. Meaning, we get up at roughly the same time, she goes out to toilet, comes in for breakfast, out to play and toilet some more, in for a nap, out to toilet, play, lunch, walk / or out to toilet in the backyard, play in and out of the house, alone and with other dogs, nap, dinner, walk or outside to toilet and sleep for the night (with "training" interspersed throughout the day). She is still young so she will need to go outside every couple of hours

She will ring my bells or scratch (a little bit) at my back door to go out. She will wake up with the rest of my pups between 6:30 to 7:30 and then goes out again after breakfast, after naps and after play time. She hasn't had any potty accidents inside in ages!

Jude's confidence is growing and she just happily trots along, sniffing, checking in for rewards. She is usually great on her leash (we do use a long line and she loves it).

Jude knows "touch", "no thank you", "no teeth", "break" (if she's being too pushy with another dog), "go slow" (if there is a new dog entering my home), "check it out" (when I see her body language shift and she's unsure of something, we go check it out together), "look" (as mentioned above), "friend" (for people and dogs", "you're safe" (for when she shows me she's unsure), "it's ok, Jude, it's just (insert "truck" - for all loud vehicles - "lawn mower", "friend", etc.). Naming new things and pairing them with treats is crucial.

We're working on not having her jump up on people when they enter the door. She is also learning to take treats gently and to not be too pushy when asking for affection. We're also teaching her some impulse control before going out a door

There are times when she hears other neighbourhood dogs barking outside that she'll start to bark and won't stop as readily as she does when it's my other dogs barking. We've been working on "I know, Jude, I hear them too. Thanks for telling me but just because someone else is barking, it doesn't mean you need to" and she's getting better at stopping sooner but it's still a work in progress.

Miss Jude stole our hearts from the very moment she trotted into our house and I'm sure she will do the same of everyone that meets her. She is an amazingly sweet little girl who lives to play, love and will brighten the day of anyone who meets her!

* Jude adores other dogs and would prefer to have another suitable canine companion in her home who is young enough to enjoy her energy.
*Must be located within Ontario Canada
*Inground/ground level Pools and deeper ponds must be separately fenced from yard
