Java's Story

Meet Java!

Java is an 11-week-old puppy from Athena’s breakfast litter, and apparently this little guy comes with a very complicated family tree! We sent Java’s DNA to Wisdom Panel, and he has 17 breeds in his DNA.

Java’s biggest genetic contribution is American Pit Bull Terrier at 24%, followed by Shih Tzu at 14% and Chihuahua at 9%. Then things get interesting. He's got Rottweiler, Labrador Retriever and Staffordshire Terrier in the mix, along with several smaller companion breeds including Bichon Frise, Poodle and Maltese. There’s some Rat Terrier and Dachshund, a little Bulldog and Bull Terrier, and even Black Mouth Cur and Weimaraner. And then, just for fun, Wisdom Panel found 1% Polynesian Street Dog in there too. Java doesn't have a family tree. He has a family forest.

Java's results predict an adult weight of approximately 33 to 51 pounds, so this little guy should grow into a medium-sized dog.

Java is the kind of puppy who is always ready to see what everyone else is doing. He loves being in the middle of the action, whether that means wrestling with a sibling, chasing a toy across the yard or following his people around to see what they're up to.

He is an energetic little guy with a fun, curious personality. He enjoys playing with his siblings and isn't afraid to get right into the puppy action. After a good play session, though, Java is perfectly happy to settle down for some attention and a puppy nap. He has that classic puppy combination of “Let's GO!” followed shortly by “I am exhausted and need a nap immediately.”

Java is also an affectionate puppy who enjoys interacting with his people. He is curious about his surroundings and likes exploring, but he isn't just interested in doing his own thing. He wants his humans involved in the adventure too.

Like all of Athena's puppies, Java is looking for a family who understands that puppies need patience, training, supervision and plenty of time to learn how to be good dogs. He will need a physically fenced yard for safe play and exercise.

Java would love a family who wants an active, playful puppy and is ready to include him in their daily life. He has plenty of puppy energy, plenty of personality and, judging by his DNA, probably enough breed variety to keep you guessing for years.

Java has been neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and has received his first two distemper/parvo vaccine. His adopter will be responsible for his last distemper/parvo vaccine and his rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age.

If you’d like to meet Java, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.

If you have questions about Java, you can email rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657.

Adopters must live within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Indoor homes only.
Adoption Fee: $300

Fur Fun Rescue's Adoption Policy
Our dogs are all in foster homes. We require a completed application prior to meeting one of our dogs. The adoption application is on our website: furfunrescue.org. Once the application is received, we check the veterinarian reference if you have or have had pets. Then we contact you to set up a time to meet the dog. If, after meeting the dog you want to proceed with an adoption, we will run a background check, call personal references, and do a home visit. We always introduce our dog to any current pets. The final step is completing the adoption contract.
