Hippo (Safari litter)'s Story

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Hippo. Honestly - if Hippo didn't have bad luck, he'd have no luck at all! Ha!

He is part of our amazing Safari Litter! This litter had a RUFF start. They were rescued from basically a dump. When a littermate broke with Parvo a week after we rescued them, they all got the Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody treatment and stopped the disease in its' tracks, Eli never got sick. Yay! Their vet visit and 4DX test prior to transport shared they have a tick borne illness called Erlichia. Hippo seemed to be affected more by the illness and needed some additional care. During his recovery, he got a toe caught in a kennel, and broke it in several places - let's just say his new nickname is Two Toes. The damaged toe was amputated. He is FINALLY - happy, healthy and ready for his forever home.

This litter is all mutt. DNA said they are German Shepherd / Great Pyrenees / and more. Even with all those breeds, his final size estimate is between 50-60# when fully grown. He's currently just about 30# at 20 weeks. They were born about March 3rd. Hippo is delightful. He's a sweet, gentle boy. He gets along with all the resident foster dogs and cats. He'd be great in any family. In typical GSD fashion, his ears are playing up down games. It's super cute! He is crate trained and well on his way to being housebroken.

This puppy is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated, including rabies.

Puppies are good with dogs, cats, kids and more. Being a puppy, they will need lots of training, including housebreaking. Remember, puppies are cute, but they have sharp teeth, need to be fed 3 times a day and poop... a lot! They will cry in their crate, might need a potty break in the middle of the night. They will pee and poop in your house - your fault ;) - and will chew on your shoes, your childrens toys and maybe even the furniture. But... once transitioned into your home, will be life long companions!

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions take place in Snohomish County.
Adoption fee is $525. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sundays to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We dont ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your dog.
