Heiress's Story
Meet HEIRESS!

HEIRESS was saved from a high kill shelter in South Carolina. She was a scared, shut down dog at that time. Her owner tried to integrate her with the pack for over a year and HEIRESS did great with all the dogs except 1 in the home. So, her owner thought it best to let HEIRESS find a home with fewer dogs.

HEIRESS is a nice size dog at about 20 lbs and just turned 2 years old. She would do best with 1 or 2 other dogs in the home who are confident. She would be okay as an only dog as well. Since HEIRESS is 'dog selective', we will require an acceptable meet and greet after the adopter has submitted an application and been approved. She does fine with confident dogs of all sizes.

HEIRESS is housebroken, and is good with young kids. She is a little suspicious of new people but warms up really quickly with the help of treats and scritches. Leash walking is a work in progress, so we are requiring a securely fenced yard in her adoptive home. She is missing 2 toes on her back foot, likely a birth defect. But this doesn't affect her mobility at all nor does it bother her. 2 less nails to clip!

From her foster mom:

"Heiress is a really sweet dog. No aggression problems with her foster sister even though the foster sister is "torturing" her. They actually started playing a little bit with each other. Her foster sister is clearly the boss dog and Heiress is OK with that. She shows deference but still gets her way.

Heiress just wants to be cuddled and petted. She's not very interested in the toys we have, eats her meals eagerly and allows us to brush her. Brushing is like petting, ok by her. She likes to "hunt" the squirrels but will come in when called. Neither dog shows any signs of escape/running away. They know where their bread is buttered, people to tickle and love them and a nice backyard to run around in."

NJ Sheltie Rescue adopts dogs to NJ and surrounding states (within 2 hours).
