Harper's Story

Breed experience is definitely an asset.

Harper was surrender along with another dachsund named Ozzy, who is also available for adoption. While they are not a bonded pair, it would be lovely to see them adopted together. That said, she can absolutely be adopted on her own.

Extremely affectionate and cuddly Harper thrives on attention and human companionship. She loves to snuggle, give kisses, and stay close. Her nick name at the shelter is "Happy Harper"!

She is the more easygoing than her brother and adapts more quickly to new situations. Harper has a calm, gentle nature and would make a wonderful companion in a quiet home.

Harper has lived peacefully with other dogs, cats, chickens, and horses. She may be slightly reactive to some dogs during introductions, but this appears manageable with proper guidance. She will need continued support with housetraining and leash walking, but she has made good progress and should continue to improve with consistency.

Harper is overweight at approximately 20 lbs and will need to slim down. Her ideal weight should be about 17 lbs. Maintaining a healthy weight is especially important for this breed due to their short legs, long backs, and susceptibility to back issues. A consistent exercise routine and proper diet will be key.

While Harper is a small dog, she still needs daily walks, not just for physical exercise but also for mental stimulation. A backyard is great for playtime, but it does not replace the enrichment and structure that regular walks provide.

Harper is a loving, affectionate companion who will form a deep bond with her new family.

To inquire about adoption, please contact our dog adoption coordinator Brenda at 819.876.7747 any day of the week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

*****************
