Harley Labrador Retriever Mix Stafford, VA

To whom it may concern:

My name is Harley. I'm a labrador retriever mix. It is with great trepidation that I write this letter, but please let me explain.

I was rescued as a puppy by the good people at Pet Assistance League of Virginia (PAL). While still a puppy I was adopted by a family and taken to their home. Not to dwell on the bad things, but I wasn't treated very well and was left outside most of the time. I finally was returned to PAL in pretty bad shape. PAL took me in and got me back to good health.

That was several years ago, and I'm still with them, despite efforts on their part to find me a home. I go to the adoption event at Petsmart in Woodbridge nearly every Saturday, but people just seem to walk past my crate to go see the puppies or younger dogs. Now don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people that just love me and want to talk to me and play with me while we're at the adoption, but they all either have too many dogs already or they have cats (I don't really get along with cats, sorry). About every week I hear, "Now that's an old dog". Ok, so I'm not a puppy anymore.

I'll be 10 years old next year, and as much as I love the people at PAL, I'd really like to have a nice home and a nice comfy bed of my own. I still get around pretty well, I do need to lose a bit of weight but I'm pretty active. I'd really like a fenced-in yard that I could run around in - I definitely don't want to be in a crate all the time or left outside all the time.

If you give me a chance, I promise I'll be your best friend.
