Gus Gus American Bulldog & American Staffordshire Terrier Mix Houston, TX

This handsome boy was found as a stray in January 2023.  His finders were worried he would be hit by a car in the street so they brought him home and started looking for his owners.  With no luck they became worried he was dumped because his skin and especially ears were in terrible shape.  Their Veterinarian treated his ears and got him started on vaccines and prevention meds. He started feeling better and they reached out to our rescue for help finding him a furever family.

His name was Gus but Gus-Gus is what comes out of our mouths when calling for him like that cute mouse in Cinderella.  Our Veterinarian believes Gus Gus is about 1 year old.  He's full grown at 55-60 lbs.  He seems to be a mix of American Bulldog and American Staffordshire which basically makes him a loyal playful snuggle monster.  He likes to nuzzle your neck and lay across your body but he'll also curl up beside you if you need some space.

Gus Gus made FAST friends with his new foster fur-siblings.  They play all day long pausing only for water breaks and then collapsing for naps when their foster mom makes them rest.  His foster mom said his best features are his hidden eyebrows that appear when he's really concentrating on his toys and his pink eyeliner and kissable snout.  She also said that he likes the scrubby part of baths a lot more than the water part but he got lots of nose kisses during the rinse so he still let her finish before getting air-drying zoomie permission.  Such a good boy!  

Gus Gus loves head scratches from the top of his head to the tip of his nose. He'd love to sleep with you at night or during movie time but also does ok in his kennel bedroom.  He likes a little calming music to help him sleep.  Cats may be a case by case basis for him but we will probably avoid them and focus on finding Gus Gus his perfect dog playmate or best human friend.  He also does get nervous at the Vet but trusts his humans to keep him safe.

When we took him to the Veterinarian we found out that he is heartworm positive.  Unfortunately in rescue this is very common in strays BUT fortunately we are members of the American Heartworm Society so we know exactly how to help him.  Gus was neutered and microchipped in March and then started the AHS treatment protocol for heartworms.  He is otherwise very healthy, his ears look great and his hair is nearly grown back so he's ready for his furever family!   Gus Gus is our baby!  Might he be yours too?
