Goose's Story

Goose is a 4-year-old neutered male doodle mix. Goose enjoys exploring the outdoors either in a fenced yard or on leash. He has fun training for treats at his pace. Goose is happy to perform cues and learn new skills when he buys into the training. Goose has been trained in the foundations of loose leash walking and appears to know sit, down, and paw. He will require an adopter that will be consistent with boundaries and expectations as Goose can be independent and insistent. While this persistence bodes well for training at times with his eagerness to work for food, this trait can be challenging in other ways. However, Goose has worked on some training with a trainer to address concerns and build new skills. He continues to work through sporadic barking behaviors in his crate when it is not his turn to be out and this behavior has decreased with training. He has been conditioned to wear a basket muzzle which sets him up for best success in harder situations such as going to the vet and nail trims which he has allowed for treats.

Goose has met some new people with slow introductions and treats and enjoyed petting from them once he was ready. His adopter should be committed to continuing positive meets with new people. Goose is working on selective dog reactivity when dogs pass his crate at his trainer's. Dog reactivity has not been seen when he is loose in a yard or on walks thus far. He was noted to have resource guarding, but does not seem to resource guard his crate and is not bothered when his trainer approaches his bowl to drop in a treat of higher value. He does not appear to resource guard random items. His adopter should be willing to provide him an area to eat undisturbed and continue pairing positive and trading up for food, bones, and toys in the future to sustain his progress. Due to the dog reactivity seen and history of resource guarding, other pets and children are not recommended for Goose.

If you are interested, please fill out an online application at: https://www.barksinc.com/content/forms/jotform_dog_adoption.html
