Gohan's Story
-Written by Gohan, a 6-month-old, 37lb male Flat Coated Retriever mix.
---------------------------------------------

I was part of an unwanted litter. My owners tried to set up a makeshift hut for my siblings and me to keep us out of the heat but it didn't work too well. We were contained in a pen but because we ran around so much it was mostly just dirt. I really did not have much growing up. I didn't get much attention. I didn't get to come inside. I spent my time in that pen with my siblings. Change wasn't really something that happened. It was the same ole. When it got really hot, I spent my days trying to keep cool and stay out of the sun as much as possible. It was still SO hot though. My owners needed to find a place for my siblings and me and reached out to a nice lady. She then reached out to this rescue and they were able to take me and my sister Klondike Bar(k) in.

I have no experience being on a leash or riding in a car. So, when I was picked up...you could say that I was quite confused and nervous. Once I made it to my foster home, I was just as confused when they actually took me inside with them. Immediately, I felt the difference between being outside to coming inside...and I liked it. I met the other dogs in my foster home and they were really nice and reassuring. There was even another foster dog there, her name is Electra. She told me that she was like me, and was also a rescue. She told me her story and how she ended up here. Then, she told me that I would soon be up for adoption and find a forever family. She told me that they would love me to the moon and back. They would take me on adventures with me, cuddle with me, buy me a fancy tag, and make me feel like I am part of the family.

I was so fascinated and excited. I had really thought that my life would always consist of being outside with little attention. Now, I was inside and being promised that I would one day find a home where I would get more attention than I could have ever dreamed of? How amazing was that? I wanted to make sure that I was the best boy possible for my new family so started taking note of proper house manners from the other dogs. I am now potty trained if I am kept on a consistent schedule. I learned what a kennel is and am kennel trained. I have learned that I shouldn't chew and try to stick to my toys. However, I will still grab a shoe if it is left out. One can only be so perfect ;) I am not a big barker, but I can be vocal when playing. If I am playing with my toy and it tries to roll away from me...I will bark at it. If it does something that surprises me..I will bark at it. I am still figuring toys out but they need to know that I am in charge. I have never been in an apartment, but I don't think I would be very happy in one. I spent my life in a smaller pen, and I really like not only
having a big house to explore...but also having a yard of my very own.

I am a good mix of playful and calm. I know you would think that I enjoy going on walks but right now I don't. One..because I am so over this heat. Two because I am not leashed trained and still trying to figure out what the heck it is. Once I get more accustomed to it, I have heard talk of dogs going on these things called hikes with their family. I think I would enjoy going hiking every once in a while. I am not someone that would be up for one every day, but every now and then could be fun. You already know that I enjoy playing with toys, but I am not interested in playing fetch. I have not had the chance to go swimming, so am unable to tell you if I am a water dog or not. Once I get to know the other dogs, I do enjoy playing with them. I also enjoy exploring and romping around in the yard.

I am not being fostered around any cats so am unsure how I would react around them. I am good with other dogs but am indifferent and a bit shy with them initially. Once I know that everything is going to be okay, I am both friendly and playful with them. I have been around a kiddo as young as 5 and do really well with her.

I came from nothing. I didn't have a name. I didn't get much attention and I only knew that pen. I have gained so much in such a little amount of time and I am so thankful about it. I am very excited to find my forever family. I have heard that some dogs have lost their home due to their family moving, a new baby on the way, chewing, etc. I am going to let you know right now..I am not perfect. I am doing my best to be a very good boy, but sometimes I make a mistake. I need a family who will stand by my side. Who will work through things with me. I need a family who will give me forever and not let me go just because their life changes. I am not an UNTIL dog, I am a FOREVER dog. If you know for a fact that you can commit me to forever, then please apply to adopt me at
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Once this app comes in, it will be sent on to my foster family. This is to help ensure that not only am I a good fit for you but that you are also a good fit for me! ?

I am currently residing in Moore, OK. If you have fallen in love with me and are out of state, how about a road trip? I do well when riding in the car.

My adoption fee is $250.
That will include my DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordetella. I will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.

EPILOGUE
-Below is an excerpt from Gohan's foster family.

"Gohan is a very needy and affectionate puppy. He loves to cuddle and get pets from people! He also loves his foster siblings and loves to play but gets tired fast so he sleeps most of the time. When he’s not sleeping he’s asking for attention, playing with his foster siblings, or chewing on toys. He absolutely LOVES toys! He’s still learning what is and isn’t a toy and he’s learning very fast! He’s done amazing at using the bathroom outside and doesn’t have accidents in his crate! Gohan loves treats and sleeping on the couch! He’s been a super sweet and amazing puppy!"
