With his stunning metallic eyes and gentle soul, he has a way of stealing your heart the moment you meet him.<br/><br/>Gerald is the sweetest dog who has never met a stranger. He adores people and is incredibly gentle—even with the tiniest babies. He has been around babies, toddlers and young children and is wonderfully gentle with them, happily offering soft kisses and patiently accepting all the unpredictable activity that comes with little ones. Whether you’re coming home after five minutes or five hours, he’ll happily greet you at the door with one of his favorite toys, ready to welcome you home.<br/><br/>He’s the perfect mix of velcro and independent. He loves being near his people, but he doesn’t need to be glued to you every second of the day. His ideal afternoon? Stretching out somewhere comfortable and embracing his inner lazy bum. And when nighttime rolls around, he transforms into a total snuggle bug who would happily curl up beside his favorite person.<br/><br/>He’s also wonderfully well-mannered around the house. He is completely house trained, doesn’t counter surf, and doesn’t go looking for things he shouldn’t have. In other words, he’s the kind of dog who makes sharing your home feel easy.<br/><br/>There is one important thing his future family needs to know: other dogs are not his friends. After surviving life on the streets of Louisiana, he has developed strong feelings about canine companions and would do best as the only dog in the home. Any introductions would need to be incredibly slow, careful, and handled by someone experienced with dog behavior. Because he is so wonderful with people, we believe he deserves a home where he can simply be someone’s beloved boy without the stress of navigating other dogs.<br/><br/>As for cats, Gerald has shown curiosity toward the cats he sees around his neighborhood, but he hasn’t been overly interested in them. We don’t know how he would ultimately do living with a cat, although we suspect that given time and proper introductions, he could potentially learn to coexist with one. He certainly doesn’t seem like the quickest dog on four legs, so we’re not convinced he’d be much of a cat chaser! As always, any cat introduction would need to be slow, controlled and supervised.<br/><br/>If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate, house-trained Great Dane who will greet you with a toy, lounge beside you all day, adore your children, and turn into your biggest snuggle buddy at night, this boy may be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.<br/><br/>He doesn’t need a perfect home.
