Meet Garrison
Garrison is a Black Mouth Cur and Shar Pei mix boy that was born in March 2020 and weighs 43 pounds.
Garrison is a ton of fun. He may have been found as a stray, but there's no way he wanted to live on his own. He loves people, attention, affection, other dogs, and just about everything else. He can be a little excitable when you first meet him, but that quickly wears away once he realizes he has your focus. Garrison can be a little rough and rowdy with other dogs, but he takes corrections well and would be a great companion for dog parks and hiking.
Garrison loves his toys, especially the soft squeaky ones that he can rip open and take the squeaker out, but he will also play nicely with his hard bones and chew toys. He can be a little anxious at first when it's time for bed at the shelter, but he will wind down and sleep peacefully on his luxurious bedding made from old comforters and pillows like a big princess. Did we mention how smart Garrison is? He's so smart and is extremely food/treat motivated. He already knows "sit" and he quickly learned the daily schedule of the shelter life upon arrival.
Garrison would do best in a home environment with access to a fenced yard rather than an apartment because he likes to practice his whale call when he is first put up in his kennel. He would be a great companion for an active dog and for older children (14+).
Garrison recently attended an adoption event at Petsense on Signal Mountain Blvd. Here is what his handler had to say: "Garrison is one of the friendliest pups I’ve met! He’s young and active and thrives when out exploring, meeting/greeting. He’s quite friendly with the other dogs he’s met (LOVED Tofu!) I can pick him up and carry him around like a sack of potatoes, and we literally just met that morning. He can and will happily sit and shake for a treat! I’d say he’d do best in a home with older kids, maybe? Or dog savvy kids. If he doesn’t get exercised properly, he’d likely worry the snot out of some kids. Would do great in a home with an existing dog.....(note!! All dogs need a grace period when entering a new home. Set boundaries, limit play, observe behaviors, etc. A well matched dog pair is sealed when the owner does a slow intro on the front end.)"
We're open Wednesday - Sunday 12 - 5 p.m but doing adoptions and meet & greets by appointment only.
The adoption fee is $90 which includes a free veterinary exam within 2 weeks of adoption at local participating vets, up to date vaccinations, Heartworm test & preventative, dewormer, flea preventative, microchip, & spay or neuter.
