Fox (EDMONTON, AB)'s Story

Meet Fox!

Breed: Doberman/Kelpie X

Age: 1 year

Location: Edmonton, AB

Personality: Fox is a happy go lucky goofball. Once he trusts you, if you tell him no, he will tip his head sideways and gently put a paw up, like, "you're just kidding... right???" When he is unsure of the appropriate behavior in a situation, he will rely more on other dogs' behavior than on commands.

Likes: Playing with other dogs -- racing them, wrestling them, hanging with them. He also loves his house kitten, and the Dachshund that rules inside. His favorite treat is watermelon.

Dislikes: Being in the house for extended periods of time, especially by himself. He doesn't like sidewalks or a lot of traffic noise. He was originally "bred" by farmers, and was found on a reserve after being dumped there with some of his siblings. He had been an outside dog for the first 10.5 months of his life, so he is still adjusting to home life.

Ideal Home: In the country, preferably a farm or large acreage. He has shown some interest in working with his foster's cows and heifers. He could also excel at agility, as scaling a bale stack 3 large bales high is not an issue. He is incredibly curious and does use his nose a lot, so scent training may also be an option. He needs at least one other dog for company.

‍‍‍ Family: Must be able to provide mind engaging exercise as well as incredible amounts of physical exercise. He isn't much into toys and PEOPLE, but toys and other DOGS he will engage. He is good with all dogs, big and small, loves his foster home's kitty, and has been around livestock, since he is being fostered on a farm.

Health: No issues.

Adoption Fee: $500

Fox has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods including, but not limited to, leash corrections; pinning; alpha rolls; and prong, pinch, choke, shock, or e-collars.

Apply to adopt Fox by submitting our adoption application at https://adoptadobe.com/adoption-application/. All adoptions require a home visit and meet and greet with other pets, prior to finalization. We do not ship dogs sight unseen.

Donate to Fox's care at https://adoptadobe.com/donate/.

Adopt-a-Dobe Rescue Society's Adoption Policy
Our goal as a rescue is to match each dog with the most suitable home possible. In our opinion, the success of a rescue is based on the quality of its adoptions, not the quantity. Adopting a pet can mean a commitment of more than a decade, and we believe our adoption process reflects that. 1. ADOPTION APPLICATION Our adoption application provides us with general information about your family, your lifestyle, and your dog experience, which allows us to qualify potential adoption matches. You may apply for a specific dog or submit a general application for us to keep on file for future intakes. 2. HOME VISIT Once your application has been approved, we will contact you to set up a visit at your home. The purpose of this visit is to meet all family members and current pets, and to make sure the environment is Doberman-ready. In some circumstances, this may be done virtually. We will often combine the home visit with the meet & greet, depending on logistics. 3. MEET & GREET We require a meet & greet between the adoptable dog and all household members and their current dogs, before an adoption can be finalized. We will not ship dogs to adopters. We will adopt out of the area, as long as adopters can meet this requirement. Meet & greets may take place at the applicant’s home, the foster home, or at another mutually agreeable place. 4. ADOPTION & LIFELONG SUPPORT Once an adoption has been approved, all adopters must sign an adoption contract and pay the stated adoption fee. If at any time an adopter cannot keep their dog, we ask that it be returned to us. We will also provide free training support to adopters for the lifetime of their dog.
