Eddie's Story

Rochester, NY and applications are being sent to Duffy's Friends. Contact/application information is found on our our website at https://duffysfriends.org or by email for questions.

All meet and greets will be set up individually to meet Eddie. Please fill out an application first on our website. We will call to talk with you in depth about this wonderful little boy.

History: Inner city of Rochester, owner let go as he was extremely matted and had fleas. He was never claimed at a city shelter but that is not unusual. He was most likely owned by a family that may have been deported or moved away and did not want him anymore. We have named him Eddie and he was picked up by the shelter on 8/24/26.

Backstory: He was quickly adopted out by the shelter and they do not screen people, first come is first served. The wife never asked her husband and there was a huge fight over the dog coming to the shared residence. The police were called as it became domestic violence. To save face with the shelter she told them he bit her husband. According to relatives that called the shelter and told shelter staff the woman was lying, crazy and never should have a dog. The extended family called Duffy's to take the dog. We talked to the shelter and they agree to let us take Eddie.

He is sweet, never been groomed in his life and is excited at his calm, new life. He seems to love women so lets just stick with that avenue for adoption. We do not know about children so we are going to pass on kids in the home or cats. This is not a elderly women's dog but an active women's dog. Having another dog his size is a plus and we are preferring a safe back yard that is fenced.

He is 3 years old and has all vaccinations, microchip and we groomed him. We went to a quiet groomer and you could see he had never had a spa day in his life. He did very well and was groomed lightly. The shelter had shaved the matts off during neuter surgery so he is a little bit hacked. We will take him back to the groomers and do another light groom so he begins to love the spa day he will be having moving forward..

He is a great, dog, very happy, very playful and should gradually assimilate to larger groups in the home.

Many times inner city homes never take their dogs to the vet or groomer and they live a life of isolation. Eddie has not had the life he should have had.

We absolutely want Eddie to bloom with love and will gradually merge into the life he should have had the first time. His adoption donation request is $400.00 for a three year old housebroken sweet little boy who is Shih Tzu / Poodle mix at our best choice for what he could be mixed with. We are doing a DNA test so we should know soon.

Your first step is to apply on our website: https://duffysfriends.org

Our adoption policy is:
Home ownership
Fenced yards
Active owners that take the dog for walks
Prior dog ownership is a must have. His prior owners were neglectful and careless. We are going to do better.

Vet references are requested and a home visit will be needed to complete the adoption steps.

This is a great dog and his only next home is wonderful.

Duffy's Friends Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Duffy's Friends adoption process: We believe in matching pets to families and we accept applications. We review the application and if we think it's a match we will call you immediately. We do not ship dogs long distances so the home must be within driving distance of Rochester, New York. We do require a fenced yard with physical fencing on all sides that is in good shape and connected. No electric fence or boundary training. Children should be 12 years old minimum if they are living in the home with our pet. A long history of owning a dog in your name is very important. Finally, homeownership is a must and we do validate this information by reviewing the tax roles to find the owner of the property. We can not adopt to apartments, condos, or townhomes due to the fenced yard requirement. Dogs under 6 lbs will be considered for a no fenced lifestyle.
