Duke Dachshund Mix Twin Falls, ID

Duke is an approximately 10-11 year old standard dachshund mix. Duke needs a special adoptive home and family. One that can understand his past PTSD, give him time to trust his new family, patience and lots of love.
Duke is frightened of many things:
His food bowl
His toenails being trimmed
Rain
Quick movements
Possibly touch
Anything unknown
He has what we have began to call episodes. Certain things set him off and his foster family has been working very hard to find these triggers and work with him on them. For instance: with his food bowl, we think someone fed him and then would beat him when he went to eat. For a while, he wouldn’t eat unless someone was holding the bowl. But he would still jump and yip if he’d bump the bowl.
He growls when he is having an episode, sometimes at nothing. And bark at nothing. He can be calmed down by speaking to him calmly, not making eye contact and not showing fear. He may get snappy. He has not bitten or hurt anyone during these episodes. We believe it is a coping mechanism for him.?
We are concerned about him going to someone who doesn’t learn his quirks, or possibly him setting off other dogs during these episodes. So a home with maybe a few calm dogs would work. Other dogs seem to ground him. No small kids. Quiet and calm environment is needed. He also needs a home with structure.
He loves to go for walks. He loves to ride in the car. He loves treats. He loves to be talked to. Duke would love a family of his very own.
