Dodo's Story

It should have been forever for Dodo. But hes back in HHP rescue through absolutely no fault of his own. Dodo was born in November of 2024. He was part of a litter that was fostered in HHP. Confident, goofy, and cute, he was selected to represent HHP in a segment on KETV channel 7. Shortly afterwards he was adopted and began what everyone thought was his forever journey. But that didnt happen. After 16 months, he was returned to HHP. The reason? Hes too big and his energy isnt compatible with their home. Yes, hes currently 78 pounds, but the adopter knew before adopting him that his DNA report said that he was a mix of Boxer, Great Pyrenees, and Sheepdog (among others). When he arrived back at rescue, he didnt have any favorite toys, blankets, or food to help with the transition. His immunizations were all expired. His leash skills were horrendous. He was no longer a confident boy, but scared and shy. Dog introductions took longer because he didnt have much socialization experience. We immediately got his immunizations up-to-date. He now has his own toys (which hes gradually learning to play with). His leash skills are improving by the day. His confidence and socialization skills are doing much better. Dodo is housetrained and crate-trained. His personality is goofy like a Boxer (after he warms up to new people, pets, and surroundings). He doesnt mind cats. He can have some goofy puppy energy that will knock down little humans, so kids should be at least 6 years old. A fenced back yard is required to keep him safe. Dodo is a smart young boy that needs a FOREVER family to keep building his confidence and socialization. Could that be you?

DODO WAS ADOPTED AS A BABY IN JAN 2025 AND RETURNED 5/26/26 FOR GETTING TO BIG AND TOO ENERGETIC. REALLY???????? YOU ADOPTED A PYR MIX. HE WAS NOT KEPT UP TO DATE ON VET CARE. I am sorry, Dodo, we will do much better next time. DNA on sibling posted

Please visit www.handsheartspaws.org for an adoption application

All of our dogs are current on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, fecal tested, heartworm tested, and they are all on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.

The adoption process is an application, a vet reference, a home visit, and a lifetime contract. The requested adoption donation for this dog is $350___.

We do not REQUIRE a fenced in yard (some dogs DO REQUIRE a fence. Decide what is best for each dog), we do REQUIRE a means of safe outside containment. We do NOT adopt to homes that use invisible fencing. Invisible fencing is NOT a safe means of outside containment.

We are willing to adopt out-of-state, contingent on our ability to complete a home visit, but you must travel to Omaha to complete the adoption. We do not transport or ship our dogs.
