DobbyDoo's Story

DobbyDoo - Dachshund Mix - Male - 3 Years - www.twyla.org

If you'd like to know more about this dog please visit our website at www.Twyla.org

Meet DobbyDoo (Dobby), a house elf looking for his forever home. Dobby was found on the HOV Lane of the Eastex Freeway at Tidwell, heading towards downtown Houston. He was likely dumped on the freeway by some inhumane muggle! After posting flyers and online, no owners came forward.

Dobby is a sweet little man, probably about 1.5 to 3 years old. He’s fully house trained, weighs just under 20 lbs., and is likely some sort of dachshund mix—he has a longer body and shorter legs. He’s got a very short and smooth coat, so minimal shedding.

Dobby is understandably cautious of new people, but sweet and friendly once he warms up; he's just not sure that everyone is going to be nice to him! He would do best if there's someone around regularly and if there’s another dog in the house for him to romp around with. He doesn’t much like being alone. He gets along great with other dogs and is tolerant of cats. He hasn't really been around children, but probably would do well with older kids. But because he's a bit timid, he might not do well with smaller children.

Dobby does great on a leash and loves going for walks. He's a chatty boy when it's walk time, but is otherwise fairly quiet. He is a good eater and is quite food-motivated. He definitely is a people-pleaser and seems pretty trainable. He's working on learning to "sit" on command, already knows his name, and generally comes when he's called. He's very playful and will chew shoes if they're left out, but he's not an aggressive chewer and has not done any damage to the shoes he's grabbed. (Maybe he's just trying to encourage his foster family to put their shoes away!) He loves to cuddle and lay next to his fosters on the couch in the evenings.

Dobby has had his vaccinations, has been dewormed, and was recently neutered. Unfortunately, he’s heartworm positive, but he has started the slow-kill treatment by getting a Pro-Heart Heartworm shot. He’s in the very early stages of the infection, has no symptoms, and is otherwise very healthy. He's also on monthly flea and tick preventative.

***Please note: All dogs are fostered in private homes of volunteers, so to meet a dog please fill out an Adoption Application on our website (http://www.twyla.org/adopt/our-adoption-process) so we may setup a private meetup with the dog or coordinate for an Introduction at the next general Adoption Meet and Greet (as listed on our website: (http://www.twyla.org/upcoming-events), as not all dogs attend all Meet and Greets***
