Dawson's Story

Meet the new guy!

What is your name?
Dawson.

What breed are you?
I’m a hairy hairless Chinese crested. And, I have beautiful brown eyes, as you can see in my photos.

How old are you?
I’m around 2 years old.

What type of family are you looking for?
One that has at least one other dog so I can have a sibling to hang out with when I’m not hanging out with my parent(s). Oh, and, most importantly, a loving family that understands that rescue dogs sometimes have weird habits.

What kind of weird habits are you referring to?
Well, prior to my rescue I was in a crate by myself so I walk in circles a lot but my Foster Mom helped me not do that as much because she taught me to play with toys and I had foster siblings to learn from and play with. I still circled at times but not nearly as much. I’m sure that with a patient, loving and understanding family, I’d slowly break that habit, or at least decrease how often I do it.

What are some things you like to do?
Don’t think I’m creepy but… I like to be very close to my person, even when they are in the bathroom. If they’re sitting down, I’ll sit at their feet. If showering, I’ll sit or lay down right outside the tub. I think that if I was not allowed to be in there then I’d probably circle anxiously as I waited for them to come out.
I also like to play with toys and act silly. But it takes a little bit of time and love for me to be comfortable enough to do that.

What is your favorite thing?
FOOD! I love food! I love watching FM in the kitchen. I pace a little or stand right by her. I’m a bit competitive when it comes to food. I really want it so I may try to get in on the action before my siblings. But I’m not mean and I don’t bite. I just want to be first. And I see nothing wrong with that. I need a head start anyway because I eat from a slow feed bowl.
But… if I had to choose between food and my person… it’d be a very close call, but I’d take my person over food.
Another favorite thing is sleeping in bed right next to my FM head. I like to smell her. But I have never licked her. I’m not sure about all that but I do like to touch my nose on her. She says I’m really gentle and that she likes it so I do it pretty regular.

What are some other things we should know about you?
Well, I’m not fond of baths but I could get used to them if I Have to (#bigsigh; #eyeroll).
I’m afraid of new people so please don’t make me sit with them. I get scared and try to get away.
Also, if I were to accidentally get away from my person I’d panic and probably run around confused so it’s best I just stay very secure when out and about.
Oh, and new things or noises or sudden moves can scare me until I get used to them.

Any final comments?
Yes. I like sitting outside in the sun, bouncing around the yard and running, rolling in the grass and rubbing my face on the carpet or couch, etc.
With lots of love, patience, and full understanding of rescue pups like me, I’ll be the most loyal and faithful Velcro (I mean pup) you ever had!!

I’m sure glad that you took time to interview me. I really enjoyed the conversation!

If you're interested in adopting, complete an application online, http://chinesecrestedrescue.org/application-adopt-volunteer/

To contact us, please send an email to info@chinesecrestedrescue.org
PetFinder inquiries may not be answered, email is preferred.
