Meet Cole
Better With Older Children / Last weigh-in: 42 lbs
On April 25th, one of our rescue partners notified us of an abandoned puppy needing medical attention. This tiny pup had been left behind by his family in an empty apartment for who knows how long with nothing but rat poison and antifreeze. After seeing this poor puppy coughing up blood, our rescue partners knew that he would require immediate medical attention and the help of a rescue if he were going to have any chance of survival, so they contacted us to see if we would be able to help. We knew we had to help, and he was immediately transported to AEC.
As we suspected, Cole has ingested rat poison, and based on his X-rays, he had also ingested something sharp. Cole required an immediate blood transfusion, and thanks to our Napoleon's Hero's program, we have a list of Streetdogs (adoptable and alum) who have been blood type tested! And lucky for Cole, we had two healthy, eligible dogs, #sdfDannyZuko and alum #sdfVanGogh, who mobilized to help their newest Streetdog family member!
Update 5/1: Cole has spent the past couple of days at Grace for further treatment and to monitor his vitals, and we are so happy to report that this sweet little boy is doing great! His platelet counts are up, and it appears that the sharp object previously seen on his x-ray has passed! Now that he is gaining weight with small, frequent meals, he's looking and feeling so much better! And today, he was even able to make a few new friends (dog and cat) and spend some time with his new dog friends outside! Cole will move to a medical foster soon, where he will continue to receive regular treatment and be closely monitored.
