Cian's Story
Cian — Gentle giant seeking a gentle heart.

Hi, I’m Cian. I'm around 3 years old and have warm amber eyes, very long legs, and a foster mom who calls me “the sweetest boy in the whole world.” If you’re looking for a tall, dark, and handsome gentleman with references, mine are excellent.

Cian is a male husky mix.

When I arrived in Iowa, I was skin and bones, frightened by sudden movements, and afraid to come inside. I can’t tell my foster family what happened before we met, but they could see that the world felt scary to me.

Since then, I’ve gained weight and started getting braver. I still hesitate at the door sometimes. What looks like a small step to you can be a big one for me but I'm learning to trust again.

What I Bring to a Relationship

My foster family says I’m one of the easiest fosters they’ve ever had. I’m gentle, mellow, well mannered, and get along wonderfully with their dogs and the kids I’ve met. I know how to sit, shake, and lie down. Offer me your hand, and I’ll offer you a paw.

My Idea of a Perfect Day

A walk with you, interesting smells, and time to explore. I might pull a little at first, but I settle in quickly and am learning better leash manners with every walk. I’ve loved visiting state parks with my foster family and would be happy to keep those adventures going. I make a wonderful adventure buddy.

I also love spending time in the yard. I would spend all day and night out there no matter the condition if I was allowed. Rain? Doesn’t bother me. Apparently, “Come inside, you’re getting wet” is supposed to be a convincing argument. I remain unconvinced.

A Few Little Quirks

I don’t get on the furniture. My foster family has tried inviting me onto the bed, but I feel very uncomfortable up there. For now, I’d rather keep all four paws on the floor and I can still lay my head in your lap from the comfort of the floor.

My height also puts my nose within range of a surprising number of snacks. If food is unattended and within reach, I may quietly help myself. I know how to sit, shake, and lie down. Nobody mentioned “ignore the sandwich.”

I haven’t spent much time in a crate since settling in. My foster mom works from home, and I’ve been well behaved hanging out loose in the house. I have also been on my best behavior being left alone without being in the crate. If a crate is part of our routine, I’ll need a gentle introduction and time to get comfortable.

Who I’m Looking For

Someone who sees a big, handsome boy and makes room for my tender heart, too. I might need a little patience and extra reassurance while we get to know each other, but every small victory will be something we can share together.

My ideal match would be someone who takes me on LOTS of walks and gives me time to explore and sniff along the way. Generous with the treats would also look VERY GOOD on your application. I don’t make the rules. Well... maybe that one.
My Heart Is Ready for Something Lasting

My foster family named me Cian, which means “enduring.” I’m hoping my next chapter brings a love that lives up to my name.

You don’t have to know every part of my past to be part of my future. I’m looking for someone whose gentle voice becomes familiar, whose hands I learn to trust, and whose presence helps me relax. Someone to make enough good memories with that the scary ones don’t feel so big anymore. Someday, that doorway I hesitate at could be the one I happily run through.... because you’re on the other side.

Cian's adoption fee is $275.00.
