Captain's Story

Breed: Great Pyrenees - Border Collie mix
Sex: Male, neutered
Age: 10 years
Weight: 99 lb
Location: CT
Good with other dogs: Yes, including small dogs
Good with cats: Yes
Good with kids: Yes
Crate trained: Yes
Housebroken: Yes
Health: Good - recent biopsy negative and some arthritis
Microchip: Yes

Captain is looking for a home!

Captain came to us when his owner passed away. He had been with her his entire life. He took the move to a foster home in stride, and has adjusted well. Captain is a gentle, laid-back, and well-behaved boy who loves to be petted. He is a very friendly dog, and is an absolute love. He is wonderful with kids from toddler to 9 yr olds and up.

This big boy may be older, but don't let his age fool you! Outside he does his border patrol. He loves to play with other dogs, but as an older gentleman, Captain tires before the younger dogs. He is also happy to have older-gentleman leash-walks. Captain ignores cats, squirrels, and rabbits, but as a Great Pyrenees mix, he will alert everyone of things that are out of place in his yard or when coyotes are in the vicinity 😂.

After he plays outside, he is happy to come into the house for a rest. Captain is a low-energy kind of fellow. He loves to spend time on the soft couch where he can stretch out. He follows you everywhere and if there is enough room, he will sit with you on the couch with his head in your lap. But if it’s too warm, he prefers the floor where it is cool.

He does not need a crate as he is completely trustworthy. He is housebroken, never chews, and never gets into the garbage!

Captain is treat-motivated and smart, and will respond to some simple commands like “out of the kitchen” when his foster mom is cooking. He can take or leave toys. His recall is wonderful, and he is a people pleaser.

He is in pretty good health, although he limps a little on the left front from arthritis. He is on Galliprant for that. We recently had a mass removed and biopsied, and we were so relieved when it came back completely benign! He is now officially a pretty healthy boy!

If you are looking for a loyal companion and think that Captain would be a good fit for your household, please put in an application!

We are a national breed rescue group and our process is designed to make sure we are very careful in the placement of all of our rescue dogs. Here's the link to our online adoption application in case you haven't already started. https://www.abetteresetter.org/adopt There is no cost or obligation for completing the application. Within a few days you'll receive a phone call from one of our volunteers to discuss your application. We do check vet references and conduct home visits. If you haven't been through a breed rescue adoption process, it may seem lengthy at first but it is just intended to make sure each individual/family adopts the right dog for your family and home. In our rescue they are fostered in a home and our intention is that they are never abandoned or let down again.
