Cadbury come to us from an area shelter. He had some challenges at the shelter with his behavior, but after a couple days in his foster home, he settled down and relaxed into an active and sweet guy! He does appear to have had little requirements for his behavior in his previous home and his canine communication skills could use some work, but overall, he's a good boy!

Caddy will need a confident and experienced owner who is prepared to lay down some ground rules for him and work on his basic manners. He is, in some situations, a bit overbearing and in others he's overwhelmed. An adopter who has clear leadership with their dog and enjoys training and moving their dog forward and offering challenges is what Caddy needs! He's good with easy-going dogs and not good at all with hyper or rude dogs. He does have a propensity to guard his owner, so he still has work to do on learning his owner doesn't need his help (a confident and experienced owner will do this naturally).

Because of his demonstrated behavior at the shelter and when first entering our program, he is not able to go to a home with children. Visiting kids that come every once in a while should be fine, but he may not live in a home with kids that visit regularly. Please note that this is not a comment on the behavior of your children, but a comment on his previous behavior. This is about keeping children safe from Caddy making a poor decision under stress.

This dog attends Cary Meet and Greet events! Not all pets in our program attend every event. We do not arrange meetings with our pets, outside Meet and Greet events, without an approved application.

All HEART dogs have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies, distemper, parvo, adenovirus, and hepatitus. Some have been vaccinated for Bordatella. All are tested for heartworms and, if they test positive, have either been treated or provided alternative slow-kill treatment. Dogs are provided monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Dogs are also provided additional medical care, as needed. This care may include amputations, wound repair, treatment for skin disorders, dental care, treatment for infection and other medical needs.
