Buffy's Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Buffy — Your Loyal Southern Sweetheart Buffy is a 1.5-year-old Great Pyrenees mix with a gentle soul and a heart as big as the Texas sky she came from. Raised in a quiet, rural setting, she’s developed a calm, observant nature and thrives in environments where life moves at a slower mosey. And unlike many livestock guardian dogs, Buffy is remarkably quiet and rarely barks. True to her roots, Buffy is a “southern sweetheart” through and through. Kind, affectionate, and deeply in tune with her people. She lives beautifully alongside other animals and carries a steady, comforting presence wherever she goes. Buffy forms deep, lasting bonds with her humans. She’s not the kind of dog who gives her heart away instantly—but when she chooses you, it’s something truly special. Once she feels safe, her loyalty is unwavering. Thoughtful and intelligent, Buffy takes a moment to observe new people and unfamiliar dogs before jumping in. She approaches the world with quiet awareness and intention, and when she warms up, her sweetness shines in the most genuine way. She would do best in a suburban or rural home where she can feel grounded and secure – somewhere she can stretch out, enjoy the outdoors, play with her toys, soak up a good brushing, and lean into those well-earned cuddles. If you’re looking the kind of dog who will quietly follow your lead, rest at your feet, and love you with her whole heart, then Buffy is your perfect match.

Please visit our website for more info on our adoption process and adoption application www.barkdogfarm.org

Before applying be sure you have thoroughly researched Great Pyrenees. They can be stubborn, prone to barking, overly protective and cannot be off leash. You WILL NOT train a pyr to boundaries.

Please be sure all family members are in agreement to adopting and your family is ready to bring dog home now.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old. We do not have blanket criteria regarding adoptions. Each applicant is considered based on many things including but not limited to breed experience, yard ( visible fence preferred) and other animals in home. We try to avoid dogs with same sex households as pyrs typically do not do well with the same sex.

A volunteer will be in touch to discuss your application and the dog to determine if it is a good match. Your vet and two references will be called. A virtual home visit done. Once approved a meet and greet at the farm will take place. If all are in agreement an adoption contract will be signed and adoption fee paid. Adoption fees for dogs are $500. for adults over 12 months, $600 for puppies 12 months and younger as well as small breed dogs. Fees for seniors, special needs or harder to place dogs will be determined by our Board of Directors. All dogs will be altered when adoption is finalized. This may involve young puppies be given until a certain age to be altered. All animals are up to date on age appropriate core vaccines, negative for parasites, heart worm and lyme tested if 6 months or older, microchipped and have a current health certificate. Proof of a basic obedience course completed is part of our adoption contract within six months.

Our descriptions are based on shelter evaluations, input from foster homes and interactions with our volunteers but are in no way a guarantee of temperment.

We show animals by appointment only. This is usually done meet outdoors so please dress accordingly.

Please email barkingdogfrm@gmail.com with any questions or to arrange a meet and greet.
