Buckee (JY26-110)'s Story
Meet Buckee!

It's Buckee's world and we just live in it. At just 1 year old, this sweet Schnoodle has already learned that you don't need perfect vision (or hearing) to experience life to the fullest.

Buckee is visually impaired and had his left eye removed due to a medical condition. His remaining eye has minimal vision and he primarily sees shadows. He appears to be deaf as well, which means he experiences and communicates with the world a little differently. For the right person, that can be a pretty amazing opportunity to build a relationship, learn new ways to communicate, and discover how much a dog can understand without relying on traditional verbal commands.

Buckee can be shy when meeting new people, but once he decides you're one of his people, you've got a friend for life. Once he feels safe and trusts you, he transforms into the ultimate lap dog and loves being close to his favorite humans.

Don't let his sensory impairments fool you, Buckee still has plenty of puppy in him! He loves spending time outside and will happily show off his playful side in the yard. He also enjoys leash walks and exploring his surroundings with his other senses. He appears to be housebroken, although he does occasionally mark. His adopters can easily manage this with a belly band when needed.

Buckee can happily share his space with calm, respectful canine companions; he has previously displayed lap-guarding behavior. If another dog approaches while Buckee is sitting in a person's lap, particularly if he is overstimulated or the dog approaches his face, he may vocalize or snap. He has also shown that he can appropriately share attention and affection with calmer dogs. Slow, thoughtful introductions and close attention to his body language will be important. If he becomes uncomfortable, simply giving him space or asking him to leave the lap can help him reset and avoid an interaction escalating.

He is looking for a patient adopter who is willing to meet him where he is, communicate in ways that make sense to him, and give him the time he needs to build trust. In return, you'll get a funny, affectionate, resilient little dog who will remind you that there is more than one way to experience the world.

If you're ready to see the world through Buckee's eyes (and ears), he may just be your perfect match!
