He's feeling better and playing with a lot of his foster family and he has been amazing with Whitley's puppies-- helping them build confidence as he lets them jump all over him. Also, after 4 months on antibiotics and supplements for his tick borne diseases, he is getting some of his hearing back. I was hopeful that his deafness was related to some inflammation in his brain, and like I have seen many times before-- treating him aggressively. Bourbon has also lost a few pounds and due to the summer heat, I decided to give him a good shave. He was excellent for that and the birds were happy to take all his hair!! Once his new hair starts to grow in, Bourbon will be gorgeous and will be very fluffy, just in time for the colder months. What a sweet boy!!!

April 2026: Bourbon is a very handsome Orange and White Llewlleyn (English) Setter- not a Golden Retriever mix. He is a big beautiful dog similar to a Golden just a bit more active. He is an owner surrender and originally came from a breeder in Kentucky. Sadly his owner passed away and he wound up in a kennel because the older widow couldn't handle him. He was loved on and is a very sweet dog and is getting along with the dogs in his temporary foster home. He is deaf- but he is very attentive and affectionate. We are looking for a pet home in the Chicago area that has a safe fenced in yard for obvious reasons. Deaf dogs can learn hand signals and Boubon is food motivated so that will help with his training. He is doing well with cage training but will need work on house manners and house training. No kitties as he is too interested. We are doing blood work the week of April 27th as tick born disease is a huge problem in Setters and can cause deafness if transmitted from mom to pup. We'll know soon, but he seems to be responding to proactive antibiotics already.

If you would like to help, please copy and paste into your browser: http://illinoisbirddogrescue.org/foster_app.html to submit a foster to adopt home application.
You can also call Lisa@ 630-694-1359
