Black Bean's Story

Meet Black Bean!

At just 5 months old, Black Bean is a handsome shepherd mix with a silky-soft coat, soulful eyes, and a heart that's learning to trust. After surviving a difficult start to life on the streets, he's discovering that the world can be a safe and wonderful place.

Black Bean absolutely adores his people. Once he knows you, he's affectionate, loyal, and happiest curled up in your lap for snuggles or following you from room to room. His foster family describes him as incredibly sweet, gentle, and eager to please.

He's a smart puppy who has already learned to use a dog door, sleeps quietly in his crate overnight, and is making great progress with house training. Like any puppy, he's curious and will happily investigate anything left within reach.

Because of his early life, Black Bean can be fearful in new environments and around unfamiliar dogs. He is currently living successfully with other dogs, but introductions must happen slowly and on his timeline. He does best with calm, respectful dogs and is not a good match for high-energy, rough, or overly social dogs that rush into his space. He needs time to observe, process, and decide that new dogs are safe.

Black Bean will require a secure physical fenced yard where he can safely decompress, explore, and build confidence without the stress of unexpected dog encounters. Homes with unfenced yards or frequent off-leash neighborhood dog interactions are not the right fit for him. His family will need to advocate for him by allowing introductions at his pace rather than forcing interactions.

He will also require continued positive reinforcement training to help him navigate the world with confidence. Black Bean has already made tremendous progress in foster care, and with the right guidance, he continues to improve every week.

His compatibility with cats is unknown.

The family who gives Black Bean the patience, structure, and understanding he needs will be rewarded with an incredibly loyal companion. Once you've earned his trust, you'll have a best friend who loves deeply, snuggles wholeheartedly, and will happily stay by your side through every adventure.

Black Bean is fully vetted and ready to find his forever family. Puppy Mill Rescue Team 's Adoption Policy
ADOPTION POLICIES The Puppy Mill Rescue Team’s dogs are placed into adoptive homes within 60 miles of the foster home. We have foster homes in Rochester, NY, Buffalo, NY, and Macedonia, OH. When applying for a specific dog please check the profile to see where the dog is located. If you are not in this area and are looking to adopt, we recommend that you visit our Rescue Partners area or Petfinder.com to locate a rescue in your area. A legally binding Adoption Agreement must be signed at the time a dog is placed. The adoption donation varies and is included in the dog’s description on the website as well as in the Adoption Agreement. Adoption donations are not negotiable and payment must be made in full prior to or at the time of the placement of the dog. Please read prior to submission of an application for adoption. All potential homes must complete our adoption process which includes an application, meet and greet, home inspection and veterinary reference. Applicants must provide veterinary references if they have previously owned a pet and contact veterinary facilities to authorize release of their records to a PMRT representative upon request. Applicants who rent their homes must verify that they are permitted to have a dog and provide a landlord contact number on the adoption application. Landlords will be contacted in every case, no exception. The primary adopter must be at least 21 years old. We are solely committed to the dogs accepted into the rescue. We want to find them loving, permanent homes and go to great lengths to place the right dog into the right family. We reserve the right to decline any adoption based on what we feel is in the best interest of the dog.
