Biggie's Story

Biggie was surrendered to the New York Animal Care Centers when his owners health was failing.

This is what his owners said at the shelter :

His owner stated that with strangers Biggie is shy and prefers contact on his owner terms. He has spent time with children ages 3 and 4 and was tolerant of them. Biggie is playful with familiar dogs and shy/prefers contact on their own terms with unfamiliar dogs. He has no experience with cats. When Biggie is inside of a crate and there is a food bowl, water bowl, or a valuable treat or toy, Biggie will guard the item.

Biggie's time was coming to an end and euthanasia was looming. We are so fortunate that someone stepped up to save his life.

Biggie is not for the first time dog owner but someone willing to work with him on training. He is so trainable just looking for the right person to make him shine bright.

These are Biggie's STATS
Approximate weight 90++ lbs.
Breed (s) Mastiff/St Bernard
Spayed or neutered? He needs someone with big dog experience. who Biggie is is willing to work with him and will not be away from home for more than 7-8 hours.

Biggie was obviously ignored in his past life, he is a “leaner.” He leans into whoever he is with. He is overly affectionate, and is a major hugger. He is about 5 feet tall when standing on his back legs. He will nip if he is eating a yummy treat, but has no problem with you taking non-edibles out of his mouth. He is definitely in need of basic obedience training. Biggie is energetic when you enter the
house, but will settle down. He is really looking for love and affection. It is
only his size that is holding him back.

Issues: He does have some resource guarding so someone who will work with him on this. Needs to be trained on his manners, jumping, hugging, heavy pawing for attention. Doesn’t like to be left alone in the yard, but when left alone during the day, Has not been crated, but probably should be. He sleeps next to
his foster on the floor at night. Very much still untrained puppy behavior.

We believe that Biggie was left to his own devices and not trained. So his owners dumped him because he was untrained. Dogs need structure, guidance, training then love. This is how dogs learn. People dump their dogs in shelters when they have no manners meanwhile it's the human who is supposed to train them.

in his last home and is a loving sweet dog who loves people. Due
to his size, he is in need of basic obedience training and an adoptor who is
not timid and has dog experience.
