Bartley's Story

Meet Bartley !!
This tiny little guy is beyond adorable. Although he can be a nervous guy at times hes been very sweet and loving with everyone.
Bartley is an approx. 5-6 month old male. He weighs 8.6 pounds and is full grown. He was said to be a chihuahua mix at the shelter but we suspect there may be more Min Pin in there that chihuahua.
He is already neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions.
This guy is an easy boy to have around. He is fairly calm and relaxed. He enjoys some zoomies around the yard and has bursts of excitement. His foster says he doesnt always pick the most ideal times to get excited such as wanting to play and be wild when let out late night or early morning to potty. Aside from that hes not super active. Playful and fun but not super hyper and not consistently busy.
He is definitely a big baby. He wants to be with you all the time and gets scared about things. He likes to go on calm outings but really hates walking on the leash. So basically, you will have to carry him to any adventures LOL. He did excellent at a brewery with a calm vibe but was not a fan of a walk in the park (all that nature and breeze blowing are scary if you ask him) He is a bit of a goofy guy in what he is scared of and what he isnt but snacks always help him relax.
Bartley has been very good with other animals. He can be shy and scared at first and then he loves to play once he sees they are safe. He is fostered with a cat and they do so well together. He is playful and curious with the cat but also respectful. If you have a cat that actually likes to play he would be great for that. He has not been fostered with children so far. We think he would do best with calm older kids as a lot of chaos and ruckus in the house would probably keep him on edge.
He is working hard to learn all of his training. Hes done well on car rides and does not get sick but is nervous. He does not yet enjoy walking on a leash. He gets very nervous and scared. He needs to be walked on a very secure lead or harness as he will get scared and try to back out of it. He is trying his best with crate training but he misses you a lot and can get really whiny at times.
Bartley is also trying hard with his potty training but he seems to have a fairly small bladder. When taken out frequently, he does well. He also has to go out shortly after he eats/drinks so vigilance with that helps him succeed with his potty training. He is very good about going potty as soon as you take him out. It is just a matter of you getting him out regularly.
He has not shown any issues with people or other dogs about sharing his food, treats or toys. He can be a nervous boy about certain things but loves people and has never tried to bite. He does like to lick people A LOT. Hes a huge cuddler but if licking annoys you, he is not your pup he wants to give all the kisses all the time.
Bartley likes to play with odd items like measuring cups and his toys have to be teeny. He loves to snuggle which is fun, he also loves to hang out in the bed. He has recently started to really like puzzle feeders and snuffle mats!
He is a really sweet boy with some confidence issues. He will likely come out of his shell more as he gains confidence. If you are looking for a quirky little cutie then he may be the one for you.
Vet and home checks required.
Fenced potty area preferred due to leash fear.
Located in Hampton VA.
(He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius)
!!Please message VillagDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.
