Barley's Story

COURTESY POST

My name is Barley. I am a 5 and a half year old "mini" Golden Retriever. I weigh in around 50 lbs. I am finding myself in a bit of a lurch. You see, my family had a baby... I have never been comfortable with kids even when I was a kid myself. We were all hoping that maybe I could handle "my own kid" but nature has proven otherwise. I need a new home. I am sad and so are my people but there are great things awaiting me; I know it! Here is a bit about me: I am independent, well-trained and trustworthy. I am super food motivated and will do just about anything for a treat - I know how to sit, stay, leave it, high five, and spin around. I am a great walker on leash. I love my strolls and am respectful to passers by. Sometimes I feel the need to carry a stick in my mouth while I walk too. When my humans go out, I am fine on my own - I snooze on the couch. I love being outside and lounge in the sun when it's out. Affectionate? Yes! I love my humans and frequently ask them for belly rubs and pets. Strangers outside the home? No problem at all. I do get a little nervous when new people come into my space. After a bit of time and some encouragement, I warm up! My new home should be a relatively quiet space; I am a dignified lady - I don't need the chaos! My owners should realize that kids make me uncomfortable. Older teens are fine but an adult or two is even better. I would love a fenced in yard as I am used to freely hanging out in my space. Other dogs? I have always lived as an only dog so we think that's the best course of action for me but I have never had an issue with a dog inside or outside my home. We have no idea on cats. One last important note, please remember my favorite foods: cheeseburgers, chicken, and vanilla ice cream. If you are interested in being my hero, please send an email to the following address: AdoptBarley@gmail.com
