Meet Aurelia!

Hey all! I’m Aurelia, pronounced O-real-e-ah. I am about 8 years old, and weigh 10 pounds. I love me some people once I get used to them, but am shy and will bark at newbies at first. I am good with kiddos once I have a moment to get to know them, but ask that any in the home be older given my body condition. I was hit by a car in early 2023. The good folks at the shelter I came from in Texas had me on a strict rest regimen, and wouldn’t you know it- I started walking again about a month after I got to Wisconsin! I have a funny little gait, and it sometimes looks like my alignment is off, but I get around just fine considering all I’ve been through! I even take the occasional jog, but if I get too tired or too excited you will catch me dragging my back end. For this reason, leash walks are just not for me and I must be very careful on pavement so as not to scratch my legs. A fenced yard is needed to keep me safe, as I am incredibly fast even while dragging. I love to explore, and my foster mom often has to come get me when its time for us to head inside. I can handle a deck with a couple steps, but a home that require a dog to navigate flights of stairs is just not for me. I take Meloxicam daily to keep me feeling good, and it sure has helped to get me moving!

I am fostered with several other small dogs, and we get along great, though I do get a bit nosey with them at times. I love to play and snuggle up once I’m settled in, so if your resident dog doesn’t mind sharing toys, game on! (I may also steal your socks from time to time, but don’t worry I won’t destroy them). No dog? No problem. Bring me in as your one and only! I can vibe with that just as happily. I haven't met any cats, so my foster family can’t say how I would do with them, but they are willing to cat test me for an approved applicant with kitties, but I wouldn't do well with small animals such as birds, bunnies, guinnea pigs, etc. I have been sleeping quietly in my crate at night, and promise to greet my forever person(s) excitedly every morning. I sure wouldn’t mind sharing your bed as long as you agree to help me up and down. I have not been able to jump onto furniture due to my previous injury, and to keep me safe I should not be jumping down.

I have regained the ability to urinate on my own, and have been a rock star about going outside. While I am considered house trained overall, I may have the occasional accident when adjusting to a new place. With your love and guidance, I will ace our routine in no time!
