Meet Amber

We took in several dogs from the animal abuse and neglect case in Heard County Georgia. Amber is one of those sweet dogs. She is a 2 year old Staffie Bull Terrier mix that weighs 44 pounds. It is obvious she was used as a breeder dog and also has her ears clipped. She is also one of the most docile loving creatures you could ever meet.

Here is what one of our awesome dog walkers had to say about this sweet girl:
Amber was dealt a bad hand at life until she was swooped up by @petplacementcenter. Then she had a rough time after her spay surgery, but this gal has proven she’s a survivor. This was my third attempt to take her hiking, and, well, Amber is not a hiker. She’s fru-fru and I am entirely too granola for her. (Don’t let her sawed off ears and pitbull appearance fool you). We compromised and hung out at the park. Amber’s wishes are a climate controlled home with one of those fluffy donut dog beds, yummy treats available, endless stuffies to throw around and frankly, she’d probably be happy joining a kiddos tea party and/or let some kids give her a spa day. She’ll happily go on easy walks, but living inside and a sense of belonging is what this gal desires. She deserves to be the queen. Amber likes some dogs, and doesn’t like some …..which is fairly typical of most dogs, but would ideally want to be a one and only. Don’t leave this gal in a yard…..she’s done with that and she is down for any kind of dress up:)

UPDATE 7/18/23: Every 52 days is one year in a dogs life. And time flies so quickly when you’re a beloved canine experiencing life in a home surrounded by those who cherish your companionship. For a shelter dog, the days can be monotonous, stressful, and lonely. Amber’s life is passing her by…….

Amber has spent 323 days as a PPC canine and as she approaches her one year shelterversary, we can’t help but feel discouraged on her behalf. For her caretakers, volunteers, our photographer who has adorned her time and time again for photo shoots, and anyone who has met Amber or spent time with her, we know what she is deserving of and we also know what she has endured and overcome.

Amber was rescued from a cruelty seizure last August in Atlanta. She was originally at an unknown shelter in Georgia and “rescued” by a group that had hundreds of dogs crammed in tiny crates with no food and water and wasting away in hot barns. The founders of this group were arrested and charged with cruelty and Amber was one of several dogs we were able to assist. All of the dogs from this rescue endeavor were placed but sweet Amber remains.

She arrived to us emaciated with her beautiful ears freshly hacked off and infected. We can’t stand this practice and we know her appearance has been a detractor to adopters which is unfair as she certainly had no choice in decision to mutilate her appearance. Amber also experienced a huge setback when she was spayed, having a reaction to the suture material and having to be hospitalized for 11 days after undergoing another surgery.

Amber is a true warrior and no matter the hand she is dealt, she bounces back and has never lost her ability to trust humans nor blame humans for her trials and tribulations. Shelter life has not been easy on her and a prolonged shelter stay can deteriorate the sturdiest of animals due to kennel confinement, noise from the environment, and lack of mental stimulation.

Amber recently spent several weeks in a temporary foster home while our fencing project was underway and we were not sure what to expect as Amber had never spent any time away from the shelter aside from outings with volunteers. Her foster Mom sent us a complete “Amber 101” synopsis and we now know she is the best girl in a home environment! Amber acclimated seamlessly to a new routine, slept like a baby in her crate, learned to play with her toys independently once she felt safe, went on her walks and outings beautifully, engaged every human she met with eagerness and affection, and was the sweetest, most grateful companion as she transitioned from shelter dog to home life dog.

Amber has done okay with some dogs but not others; most of her reactivity is barrier based and frustration based but she would thrive as an only pet, which we understand is a tall order for many homes. Her foster Mom conveyed that Amber never showed any aggression towards other dogs on walks, even when a dog approached her unleashed but we still feel that she would prefer to be the only pet in the home.

Amber loves all humans! Age, sex, race, gender, makes no difference to her! She is the most social and endearing girl and one of our volunteers summed her up perfectly when she said that Amber’s dream would be attending a child’s tea party dressed up surrounded by kiddos! Amber is a homebody. And while she can be active and get the zoomies and she LOVES her games of tug of war and her flirt poles, she doesn’t really care for long hikes, dips in watering holes, or exploring nature. Amber enjoys her walks but her favorite thing is a fenced backyard with grass to roll around in. After a yard session, she can be found on the sofa with one of her stuffies straight chillin until she passes out. She is a low maintenance bestie and would actually be perfect for an apartment or condo dweller so long as she can get her grass fix. Amber is perfectly content to sleep all day while her human is at work and hang out until bedtime (she loves to sleep with her human if allowed).

We know how challenging it is for shelters and rescues to adopt out even the non pits with stellar temperaments and Amber does have a couple of restrictions. But that doesn’t make her less deserving of a home and family for the rest of her days. She has so much to offer the right person/family and rarely do we say this but she has so many traits of an ESA as she is so very loyal, smart, tolerant, and has endured so many obstacles with poise, grace, and even gratitude. She is a Velcro dog without the anxiety and we think that’s remarkable given her circumstances!

Amber has spent a full year’s worth of holidays as a homeless dog and as she approaches her one year mark with us, we want more than anything to celebrate her long journey with us by showing her that the cruel and unfair life she was subjected to before we rescued her was not in vain as it was her path that will soon lead her to only feeling love, only experiencing comfort, and only knowing security. We just know her wait will be worth it but we need your help.
Please assist us by sharing this amazing, resilient girl. Her life is passing her by and every day counts in the short life of a dog.

Amber is 2.5 years old, fully vetted, up to date on vaccines and preventives, and is the sweetest girl who will add abundant joy and companionship to your life. She would love a foster home until her forever home is found, too!
