Ajax's Story
Ajax is a wise, gentle old man. He is always looking for love and will stay glued to you as much as he can. He is very calm, with only subtle, raspy bark to let you know someone’s at the door. He is unbelievably loyal, always staying close outside and desperate to go on all adventures as long as he’s with his human. He needs some time to get used to the right area to go potty in, but with patience and boundaries, he learns quickly. He won’t always communicate when he needs to go out, so having someone who is consistent with letting him out and aware of him will be important. Ajax tends to get anxious when left alone in a big house, he does better in a crate or small room. His foster has his bed and food and water set up in the laundry room, when left alone, and he does great in there. Because of his anxiety, he would benefit from someone who is home often (i.e. works from home, stay at home parent, etc) or could take him on adventures for the remainder of his days. Overall, he is the sweetest snuggled and would be a great addition to any family without big dogs. He potentially could do well with a dog his size and energy level. He does well with children of any age as long as they are watched and don’t pull on his cute ears.

Ajax is currently being fostered in Utah.

Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR) has foster families in Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming. Please check the dog’s location before your apply to adopt them. You will need to pick them up. RMDR DOES NOT TRANSPORT THE DOG TO YOU or transport them across state lines.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture requires that all dogs entering PACFA-licensed facilities have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian within 30 days of entry. Dogs over three months of age must also have proof of a current rabies vaccination, including the vaccination date, manufacturer, and serial number listed on the CVI. Puppies must receive parvovirus and distemper vaccinations at least 14 days before entry.

These PACFA requirements may affect the adoption fee. For questions, please email us at contact@rmdr.org.

At RMDR, adoptions are not first-come, first-served—we carefully place each dog in the home that best fits their needs. Applications are usually reviewed within 48 hours. Every RMDR dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.

If you’d like to be considered, please start our online adoption application here: https://rockymountaindachshundrescue.com/adopt
