Meet Muffin

Muffin (F, tan tabby, short hair) was rescued from a residential area in West Torrance in July 2022. Born in May 2022, she is spayed and vaccinated and ready for their forever home.

We prefer for her to go to a home with another cat, as she loves sleeping with our resident adult cat. (Please see our Instagram Highlight for the cuddle party photos.) She is initially shy around humans and runs from reaching hands, but she purrs for pets if you approach her while she's lounging.

Because they are our longest residents in foster care, Muffin is available as a foster-to-adopt* addition to your home.

Muffin is less shy than her sister Brownie. She has a nightly cuddle appointment with her favorite human in the house, where she sits on our chest while we're at our desks. When she's feeling generous, she'll shuffle between her #1 and #2 human in the house for cuddles and pets. Because she is initially shy, she does have to gain your trust before you can approach her, she doesn't lie on just anyone's chest! Recently, she's squeezed onto a chest when our resident adult cat has already been stationed there, she is relentless.

While Brownie screams the loudest during feeding time, Muffin is food motivated in the sense she leads the charge digging leftovers out of the garbage disposal when no one is looking... Literally her front half of her body in the empty sink while one front leg extends as far as she can go down the sink.

The pair hides under the bed any time there are new visitors in the house. If you do decide to open your home to Muffin and Brownie, we suggest having them live in a small room to start (such as a bathroom), with zero hiding places. As you can expect, Brownie and Muffin are alert and stiff during adoption meet and greets, so instead of petting you may prefer to feed a Churu (which we will provide).

Both kitties are on a 100% wet food diet, as dry food is not healthy for cats. They are fostered in a home with young children and adult cats, so they are great with both.

Lastly, Muffin has tested positive for FIV antibodies as of February 2023. Brownie is negative for FIV antibodies. Muffin lives with our FIV- cats while in foster care. Other than testing positive for antibodies, she is healthy and happy with no symptoms at all. Cats with FIV can and do live long and meaningful lives, as long as they stay indoors and cat parents are aware of their underlying condition.

FIV cannot be transmitted cross-species (ie. cannot be transmitted to humans), and is mainly transmitted to other cats through bite wounds. Casual, non-aggressive contact, such as sharing water bowls or grooming, does not transmit the virus.

It is uncommon for FIV to be transmitted from an infected mother cat to her kittens, but it is a possible route of transmission, as Muffin was rescued at such an early age where she'd be less likely to contract the disease through bite wounds. You can read more about FIV in kittens here: https://www.kittenlady.org/fiv

*For foster-to-adopt applicants, please make a note in the last question of the Adoption Form. For foster-to-adopt homes, you will be responsible for all costs associated with taking care of the cats (ie. food and litter), but Rosie's Academy will cover medical care. After a month of fostering the kitties, we will check back in to see if you'd like to formally adopt the kitties.
